My Most Recent Ride 2012 (Part V in a series)

Jens bullied me out the door for a ride without the dog. Just did a grave mound/river loop.

It didn't go very well. Had trouble breathing and in spite of 65 F temp, I felt horribly overheated. Like an egg could fry on my face. I used my GoPro again, but same problem in spite moving the camera further back and pointing it a bit higher. Also the side-to-side head bob in spite of consciously trying to keep it still.

Well at least you got to ride. I haven't ridden since last Thursday on the Erie Canal. I am just looking outside and watching it rain. (However, we DO need the rain around here!)

 

HA! It rained so hard for so long in Townsend today that the rain pooled up in the grass beside the shop...and eventually raised up over the sidewalk and I had water just mere inches from seeping underneath my front door.

I am planning to ride the Coulter Bridge to Tremont and back with a stop at U Man this Friday if the weather is good. Plan to leave from the bridge at 1:00 pm if anyone wants to join me.

An AWESOME day! Loke and I only covered about 17 miles, but through beautiful countryside. I was able to peek into THREE churches for interior pictures. The last treat of the day was stopping at a manor house. I paid 60 kr and got to wander through the open rooms of 4 floors. Then I had a belgium waffle with raspberry preserves, fresh strawberries and cream.

 

Indy Tour deCure Century 2012

Last month I made the trip to Indianapolis to participate in the American Diabetes Association fundraising event at the world famous Indianapolis Motor Speedway. The June 9th event featured about 1400 cycists who rode in 1 of 4 skill-level challenges. I would estimate 400-500 of those chose the 100-mile on-track event.

It started at about 8:00am and the track closed at 4:00pm. I did make it under the wire with my century but not much was left. I particularly experienced the effect the 9-degree corner banking had on the roll characteristics of the trike; I had to spin thru the turns then ease into an easier higher gear combo on the straights. The top on the trike proved to be real comfortable and a number of the DF guys accused me riding all day 'in the shade'!

Fred's friends, Bill & Georgia drove from Texas to participate; Bill was this years oldest participant at 79. His extra 'victory lap' about did him in however!

18 Miles last night..THe first time i been out on the bike in July...Been to darn hot.

Now, I really should get my butt in gear for a tour before Jens' vacation is over so I can ride without Loke who had to go the vet again yesterday. At least it's not his feet this time.

36 miles with a trailer. More heat, less wind than the last 36 miles. I bought some groceries, which took some damage bouncing in the trailer. I conserved momentum by applying sunscreen while pedaling.

 

Wish you would post miles on Bike Journal as an RRI member. That would put us young buck to shame!!!
