I just got to watch the youtube video, now I'm home from work, and I must admit you look like a chief on a Tricycle! :wink9: Seriously though, since that is a pannier cover that's an awfully :cool9: secondary use for it.

I bought a matched pair of Axiom panniers and an optional a pair of covers. I found that I can pack day-trip essentials in one bag with the 2 covers packed tight in the bottom. So, without mods whatsoever......., wallah!

About an hour ago someone on face book mentioned , "Shower cap". Got to thinking of all the things that could be quickly covered with those: computer, lights, bike seat, upright bar ends & shifters and yes perhaps, helmet.

    Cheap as well (I imagine)!

I use a shower cap under my seat cover to keep rain out of the seat pad. Once those pads get soaked they take forever to dry out :no9:

Wonder if keeping the shower cap on the foam pad full-time and the fabric cover on top of both will extend the foam life by keeping sweat and rain out of the foam? Sweat has a lot of salt in it, and my last seat pad started falling apart. Maybe in part due to the abrasive nature of dried salt. But does the shower cap affect comfort and make crinkling noises?

    Dave,

I've had the cap over my seat pad continuously for years with no problems, comfort issues, or noise. Most of the time I forget it is there unless something, like this thread, reminds me.

Ed, I really think that putting a firebird logo on the top of the helmet would finish this design quite nicely.....

    Speaking of visors...

I just tripped across this item on eBay a...Black Voz Sports Evolution Helmet and didn't realize that companies made removable visors for such helmets. :confused9:

    In part, the description reads:
Designed for systematic upgrades (Shaders(tm), Skull cage, Visor, electronics and communications). Currently is fitted with Salamander visor.
And then searching for a Salamander Visor, I learned that they:
Keep the sun out of your eyes with this great visor. Slightly smaller than the Beak. Works on any helmet. Closed cell foam sandwiched by tough 600-denier poly-cloth. Tenacious Velcro installation kit.
Anyway, just another possible option for an easily removable (cloth) visor if anyone's contemplating such. :wink9:

Cool. Just bought me one. BTW they are cheaper if you order them directly from Salamander than Ebay by $8.

Haven't used it yet. I bought it for a new helmet I got that didn't have a visor built in. On my old helmet with built in visor, I cut a piece of plastic and used Velcro stick ons to keep it in place. Easy to put on and take off. Helmet doesn't look ugly when visor is off because the Velcro strips are small. Did have to use black zip ties to keep Velcro stick ons attached to the helmet when I pulled off visor. At first the Velcro stick ons that were supposed to stay on the helmet, pulled off when I took the visor off. The zip ties solved that problem. Now the system works flawlessly. Here is what it looks like.

(Pictures of visor in thread below was BEFORE I added zip ties to helmet Velcro dots.

Here is a thread that talks about making one if you want.

    http://www.recumbentriders.org/forums/showpost.php?p=22465&postcount=17

This year has been cloudy, cool and rainy all year. So I haven't put on the visor because I haven't seen the sun in months. I normally ride with a bicycle hat under my helmet. Here is what I look like.

The visor from the bicycle hat keeps the sun out of my eyes. (I lean way back in my bent so I need a visor that goes now at a steep angle to protect my eyes.) The hat is also sweat control which I do profusely.

When I do put the visor on, I will write up a report here. Now that you asked, I will put it on soon (like next week) and let you know the outcome.

Thanks for getting me motivated to do this!

    OK Gary,

I finally attached the Salamander visor to my helmet. Here are my comments.

The kit comes in two pieces. One is the visor. On the back of the visor is Velcro. Then they give you a Velcro strip to attach to your helmet. Plus an alcohol swab.

Instructions are to swab the helmet first, let dry then apply the Velcro strip. Very easy. Here is what it looks like at this stage.

Then you apply the visor to the Velcro and you have a new visor. It looks like this.

Very sturdy and not heavy. So I put it in my closet to use riding the next day. When I took the helmet out, what I found was the Velcro strip I applied to the helmet came off at each end. The pull of the visor was stronger than the adhesive on the back of the Velcro.

So I got some glue and glued about the last two inches of each end of the the Velcro strip to the helmet. Waited a day then put the visor on. Solved all problems.

As far as the visor I like it. The visor comes down lower than my bicycle hat so it protects my eyes better from the sun. I am in an extreme laid back position so normal visor don't work. This work much better and I am glad I purchased it.

I purchased the Beak helmet visor not the revisor.
