My average speed hovers just above 16MPH.
Towards the end of the warm, outdoor riding season, however,
my average speed hovers over 17MPH.

I'm one of those riders who loves to hammer after those slow, old-fashioned
diamond-framed bicycles though, so my speed is more my speed!

I'm riding a RANS V2 26, when I'm warmed up but still fresh 15 - 17 on the flats is not uncommon, particularly if I'm riding with a fast rider. However, when I get worn, it drops into the 12 - 14 range. And, if you give me hills, I'm liable to be slower than the joggers. :no9:

I ride for fun, and simply enjoy seeing the miles add up! :biggrin9:

It warmed up to the 50's today so I hit the road...I was not cold but the wind was terrible. Steady at 15-16 mph with gusts up to 20-25. I HATE THE WIND! I was almost blown to a dead stop coasting down hills on several parts of the road..:hissyfit9:l.

I still did 58.3 miles with an average of 12.7. I almost didn't go but figured I had to take advantage of any warm day no matter how windy. This is the longest ride on the Rex to date. I am still wondering if a 200k would be to much.

I envy you, wish I was out there today fighting the wind. How did you feel after your ride? If you can maintain that pace you shouldn't have any problem, but it will probably take you around 11 hours. You will need good lighting as you may not finish before dark. Check out the route and find out where potential store stops are in case something happens....I have had hydration bags suddenly start to leak loosing all of my water etc. Also have discovered that after being on the bike for along time the food that I had brought didn't sound very palatable.

Build those miles up, I'm coming for you soon :injured:

    Hi Brian,

March 12, I'm doing the Solvang Century which will be the longest ride I've done. I've been doing the Tour de Sewer metric century the past 2 years and decided to try something longer. I can pump out 50 - 75 miles no problem, just not quickly. For me, I'm hoping to do the century in about 10 - 11 hours, figuring with stops it will slow my pace down some.

I'll let you know how I do and that might be a gauge for you. I do know that once I start going and get to where my "freshness" is gone, then I tend to run about 12 mph and as long as I keep myself hydrated and some sort of carb/protein intake going, then I will continue to keep cranking away.

My legs are a tad bit sore but unlike high mileage on my DF Nothing else is hurting which is wonderful. My longest ride ever was a century in a DF. I am slowly building up to that on the recumbent.

When I got home today my next door neighbor called me and gave me a copy of Fridays newspaper. Someone took a photo of me and the V-rex..lol..

I took a photo of the clipped paper..Its pretty funny

The Tour de Sewer is put on by the Bell Gardens Lions Club in Southern California. It is a metric century with a nice combination of hills and flat.

I've enjoyed the ride both years I did it.

Rode 20.4 miles today at lunch. I am slowly removing layers of clothing. Don't wear my balaclava now, only 1 pair of socks, and removed my liner gloves from under my bicycle gloves. Also am wearing a wind breaker instead of fleece jacket. And even that gets removed after 15 minutes of biking.

It is warming up folks, so start getting out and ride!!!! :bike:

Oh BTW, if you look at the Bicycle Journal site we now have with a direct link at the top right of our forum ("Log Your Miles!") there are not many of us logging our miles but I know many of us are riding.

And Curtis, I just beat you by 1 MILE today!!! Looks like you and I have a competition on our hands!!!!

    Hi Jon,

I'm hoping the weather is dry tomorrow so I can pick up some more miles and jump past you again.

And if I do things right, on March 12, I'll be able to add 104 miles upon completion of the Solvang Century. In the meantime, I'm looking for hills to ride up so I can get in shape for it. Unfortunately, I leave in the flatlands, so I have a 15 or so mile ride to reach any amount of hills.

But any competition that will keep me on my Rans, I'm ready to be involved in, just for the pure joy of riding.

I hope everyone's weather either gets good or stays good for the weekend!

    Curtis
