Rain is coming in and I will be in Florida with family the week after Christmas so no biking.

Been a great year for me.

    New bent.
    New mileage record.
Nothing hurts!!!! A very good sign!!!

See you all next year!!!! :)

Wishing all a great new year!!!

Haha, imagine that...that is what Willie G and I had planned on doing. Be creepy if we wound up in the same area!

Universal studios is FUN...we went there on our honeymoon...too much fun!:jiggy9: Regardless of where we go...we're going to try and take our bents with us. Especially up at my moms. They recently paved the road she lives on and the road that branches off from hers with nice glassy black pavement... a mini Cades cove. Riding around the roads will be sweet! We'll have to carry though...the wild critters there won't want to just watch you ride by...they want to eat you.

my last ride was memorable...I just got back my new Musashi and was out on a shakedown run...my rear tire touched the edge of the curb between the grass and road and hit a slick spot...was like ice...the rear tire came out violentlly and threw me down hard to the left...I scraped my left pedal, handlebar, and just under my seat...25 mph and ashphalt hurt when it all comes to a violent stop while clipped in...I sufferred major road rash on my left calf and broke my ankle...just found out today it needs surgery and I will be off my recumbents for at least the next 8 weeks...be careful out there...you never know when you might be next...I literally had no time to react...

What a tragedy! We ride whenever we can and consider it great fun and exercise. And then in an instant it all goes bad. I've never had an accident on a moving bicycle. But I understand that can change when one least expects it. Such a shame you're broken and banged up. All of us should take your misfortune as a wake up call to not become complacent. Sean, here's wishing you a fast recovery.

Sorry to hear, Sean! Recover quickly.

That's one reason I chose a trike. Recumbent bikes just seemed way too scary for me, particularly given my knee problems and hills. Anything over 5% and I go too slow to stay upright. :tongue9:

I'm sorry to hear about the fall. Hope everything heals up fast.
I have worn that road rash before and it ain't no fun, I bought two drugstores
Out of their largest non-stick dressings that are made out of a kinda
Padded material....best thing ever. It took three at a time cleverly
Connected to cover the entire wound.

I really hate to hear about the broken ankle, did it get caught against the curb?

Jon, congrats on meeting your goal and enjoy your trip. I'm not sure that
I will get back on the bike this year. Mom and MIL having health issues.

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year everyone!

    Sean,

Sorry to hear about your accident. Heal quickly!!! Road rash is no fun, it hurts and you have to be really careful to keep it from getting infected. Hope your ankle heals quickly, never nice being stuck not able to walk or ride.

I know all about tire/curb wrecks! I had a similar accident here on 321 while participating in the MS150. Wasn't going nearly as fast as you but I did road rash on my left hip. Hate to hear that this happened on your first time out on your new bent.:eek:hmy: Hope your surgery:injured: goes well and your recovery time goes quickly so you can get back on it. Maybe your doctor will let you get on a trainer :trainer: to keep fit. Regardless, you'll be in our prayers:pray::pray:

    Last ride of season............not

Was really nice weather this morning. So as i was moving the trike to make room for more junk in storage; i decided to take a short ride just for grins.
I can't find my cycling shoes so it was a bit of a circus to keep my combat boots on those tiny eggbeater pedals. But that also made it easier on Jacob since, his little legs could only keep up in short bursts.
14.4 miles and 1,000s of smiles.
Have decided to make my last ride of the year on Dec 31st around 11:30 or so. This may be the first year my church does not have a midnight service. If they decide to not break with tradition and go on with one, i am going to take the trike to church and leave early.
Hope to get in a good 15 or so on 31st then 15 or so on the first at least. If i can find my shoes....
    Anybody up for it? :jiggy9:

    Ooh! Another ICE blogger! :jiggy9:

I made it out the door for a ride in spite of having a tummy doing somersaults and barrel rolls. 46 F out, about 20 degree above the seasonal norm and not even a trace of snow. Otherwise, perfectly clear and very windy.

Loke was thrilled to be outside for the run, so at least one of us enjoyed ourselves. The ride was mostly uneventful until about 3/4's of a mile from home when I found the cycle path blocked by a fallen tree. No way around it as it had fallen over an 8 ft chain-link fence and the crown draped down the steep slope to the river. As I watched a man help his wife with baby stroller and his father over the crown and nearly slip into the river, I turned back to take another way.

I'm honestly surprised we didn't find more trees down. 2 nights ago a major wind storm ripped through this part of Sweden with 40 mph sustained winds and gusts up to hurricane force. :eek9:

thanks for the kind words all...I had surgery yesterday morning and feel like a Terminator now with my metal rod implant where my ankle used to be...I hope to get out there riding eventually again...I had to sell my TerraTrike Sport Elite just to make ends meet this month so hopefully once I get back to work again I can get another trike...I'm kind of leary about getting back on my Bacchetta or Musashi if you know what I mean...
