I made the same mistake a while back. Instead of a MTB, I rented a "comfort" bike. What an oxymoron!! After 50 miles and 6 ibuprofen, I swore never to get on ANY DF bike again. So far, I haven't!!!

We rode from Paint Creek Tennessee to Hot Springs North Carolina, 11/26/2011.
The NC road people had spread rock. Big rock 3-4 inch stuff..they were
not thinking of bikers. It was ruff as a cob. If you've not run out of TP
lately, you may not remember how ruff that is. Anyway, I was glad I
was riding an Electra Crank Forward with fat 3" low pressure tires. This
bike is a keeper. This bike is big and comfy...not made for speed. It has
a flat seat with no nose that goes between the legs. It started out with
7 flat land gears. I changed it to a 21 speed with mountain rings 22-32-42,
and 11-34 gears. Now it looks like it's from around here. The rough
road is 8 miles of the total 20 miles and that was enough to really aggravate
an otherwise perfect day. I'll post a picture of this fantastic bike.

    Brian,

For running off road or mountain bike trails, you might consider the Lightfoot Ranger ( http://www.lightfootcycles.com/ranger.php ), it is built with the idea of riding off road and from the specs, it looks better than the Linear I modified a few yeard ago (http://www.bikejournal.com/profiles.asp?rname=myerscw ). It did well off road, the only reason I don't still have it is due to wanting the RANS V2 26 I currently ride. My bride of 38 years, said there was no space for another bike, so I had to get rid of a couple of the ones I had. I rode the Linear in the Sequoias several times and was quite happy with it.

Another ride today. I meant for it to be a 15 miler, but since I forgot to take my holed pillow I've been using since I broke my tailbone, it turned into 6.75 miles.

I guess it shows that I am getting closed to healing that I didn't yelp in pain when I sat down on the trike seat. Though, I think I undid some of the healing by stubbornly not turning back.

It was clear out which was nice, but the wind was howling. Not a bad ride... except for my rump. :rolleyes9:

With out of town friends coming in for Thanksgiving and the weekend and rain on Monday & Tuesday, it has been a WEEK since I have ridden.

Today is very cloudy but no rain. 40 degrees right now. Hope the streets dry out by 11:00 AM so I can ride today and get closer to my 2,000 mile goal this year. We shall see.... The rest of the week is supposed to be SUNNY!!! I can't wait!!!

This thread is for ride reports. We don't care about your out of town friends and we know what the weather is. We'd rather hear about Terii's rear end. Give us a ride report, or just shut the h*ck up.

I see Buddy forgot to take his antigrumpy pills today. Since he is so old, he really get grouchy without them.

Today is my 60th birthday. To celebrate I took my Bacchetta out for a short COLD spin. 43 degrees out, cloudy and windy. While I was loading up my bent on my bike rack, I could see my breath!!!!

Anyway decided to ride my age today. Started out very strong. After 20 minutes I finished at 6.0 miles. Because I felt so well I kept going and did OVER TWICE my age at 12.7 miles!!!

Total is now 1906 miles for the year. I have less than 100 miles to make my all time 2,000 mile record. Can't wait to beat that one!!!

Good for you Jon, and Happy Birthday! Hope it has been a good one so far. As for Buddy, you do know his pills are merely placebos right? They haven't and won't do jack diddly.:jiggy9:

My 60th is coming up in January. I have been riding my age for the last 10 yrs. It is getting tougher due to both weather and age.
