Great ride! I bet that is too much stretch. Have you thought about some sort of bar ends? On my ti-Aero I mounted some bar-end nubs right at the end of the bars that I just hooked my first two fingers around when I settled in and cruised. As far as the legs, I find I use a bit different muscles when I go between the Dragon and the Venom as the recline is a bit different.

Out yesterday on the Venom. We started with the temp hovering around 45, Beautiful clear skies and winds 8-10mph. Left the dam on the north end of Columbus and went downtown to look at the remains of one of our last mills that had burned the night before. Columbus has a unique way of performing urban renewal, whenever they want to renovate an area somehow it manages to burn down :eek9:. They were still pouring water on it so we were back on the Riverwalk headed towards Benning.

The work has begun on the riverbed to ready it for the Kayaking course that is being built. However, they are having some issue's. Diverting the water has caused the bank to erode and a large section of the Riverwalk fell into the water. The good news is, not in our path.

The water was higher than usual as well. Ever since Atlanta won some sort of water war over the Chattahoochee they have been draining it quite a bit and our water level has dropped tremendously. Yep, Atlanta won over south Georgia, Alabama and the panhandle of Florida. Go figgue.

We only saw 2 other cyclist heading out towards the post. Leaving the Riverwalk we hit a short but steep hill with grades of 10% that also has a series of nasty speed bumps. Liner on his DF could navigate them but I had to slow to a crawl for each one. The goody for taking that hill is once up on top we pick up a great newly paved road.

From there it was much faster and smoother as we traveled through main post, down around the airfield and then out on Sunshine road following the Chattahoochee again in a southeasterly route. We stopped at a bridge that crosses a large creek to refuel, 25 miles in, mid-50's now so a bit of clothing adjustment.

Heading back we had tailwind for the first five miles but then as we turned north we hit headwind. The wind was mostly from the east but as it came near the river it hit a wall of large pines and turned south. We weren't trying to break any records so that was okay. So back through post, had one detour over gravel from road construction and then slowed again for Firetrucks but we saw no smoke.

Back on the Walk for the last bit home, a few more riders out, mostly the hybrid comfort brand enjoying the beautiful day. I guess Columbus's hardcore :rolleyes9: roadies have put their bikes on their trainers for the winter.

Finished with 49 miles with a moving speed of 14.6, but only 1300 feet of elevation gain. Total time was about 3:45

I don't tell good stories like Ward an John....I don't plan parking mine until it really gets cold. I may have a story or two after this weekends 200k. Looks like 40 plus people are signed up for the brevet on the Eastern shore of Md. I want to hook up with a few other recumbents. If nobody shows I plan on chasing DF's all day and seing how many I can pass. I want to at least ride fast enought to stop in at te Dogfish Ale brewery for a pint..lol

Serenity, I'm going to ride all winter long just like always. I just won't have many targets.

Brian, have fun and I bet you pass plenty. The biggest problem you are going to have is holding back a bit.

What that big black raven said..

Guys and gals I made a vow over the weekend. No more complaining, no more whining, and no more feeling sorry for myself.

My last ride was with the best bunch of folks I have ever been around. It was the "Honor The Warriors" ride saturday 5 november in Mint Hill, NC. I had decided that this year I was going to ride no matter what. I got my boss to deliver the briefing to the 15 mile group and I was set for the 34. It was not fast, it was not long, and the climbing was minimal, but it was the best ride I have ever had.

To ride with these guys who have lost the use of their various body parts and see just how much they work made me feel ever so small for any complaints I have had about sore muscles or painful joints. Ron has a partially paralyzed right side yet he pedaled his trike with one leg while steering with one arm. Ray has only partial use of his legs and triceps but on his hand trike he worked the entire course. Bob and Tom have varying forms of TBI yet kept their balance and on their DF bikes made the entire route.

This group from the Warrior Ride in Wilmington, NC really made an impression on me and everyone involved. I will ride with them again and I will keep my vow about the complaining. "Never more, never more..."

    Jerry

Did 20.1 Miles today around the block. First time in a long time I lost my temper. AS I was going through town a total a**hole came screaming up behind me and got about 3 feet off my rear end and laid on his horn. I came to an abrupt stop and Yelled at him " You got a Fkn Problem?" as he flew on by. I will probably see him again in town since he is a local and I will ask him if he has a problem with bikes. I usually just bite my tongue and say nothing but that was ridiculous.

I hit a few of my steep grades and was able to climb them pretty well.

    20.1 miles
    2832 elav
    average speed 16.3
top speed 41.1----Now this is a new high on this bike and it felt solid as a rock

You guys were not lying-- I am consistently averaging 3+ mph faster than I was on the V-Rex

OOO I also met my milage goal for the year I planned on 3,650 for my first full year of riding and reached that today- The rest of the year will be bonus miles.:jiggy9:

One question...trdoes laying back work the stomach muscles more? I have some abb soreness and think its do to riding further back but i am not sure.

Yep, told you so. The abs, maybe from trying to hold your shoulders up without being aware of it. That or may pulling on the bars when you are climbing. I do that quite a bit, reach up higher on the bars to get a more closed position.

Sounds humbling froglegz. Living next to Fort Benning I am surprised that we don't have more veteran riders as you have described. There was one fella with a hand cycle that I saw a bit a year or two ago but none recently.

Thanks for telling us about it.

Nice report Jerry. We should Keep this ride in mind for next year.

While you were doing that, 14 of us drove from Greeneville Tennessee
to Townsend and rode from Coulter Bridge round trip and got in 27 miles.
The day turned out to be perfect. We had a nice lunch together in Townsend and a very nice ride along the river back to the cars. Some
of us veterans in our 70's. All young at heart.
