    Breeding

OH I totally agree. Many dogs are turning out horrible and unfit as you say. Many times it is due to the fact that they are becoming completely too inbred because people want that certificate of "pure breeding", which I think is a joke but that is just my opinion. I learned that if I want a really good pet, go for the runt of the litter. It is a risk, though because they might have health problems that the stronger ones won't have, but their overall disposition is just great. Easy to get along with, friendly, loyal wonderful pets. I do not know if Ronin was a runt or not, but the vet & groomer and kennel folks all talk about how sweet she is. And as for my cats, I've always tried to get the males because I felt sorry for them, but then they turned out to be the sweetest killers ever. So loving and sweet natured...but rodents, birds and lizards beware...there is no safe place.:jiggy9:

I had a friend who was hunting coyotes with his dogs one time;and they treed a really young pup.
I think the dogs were as confused as to "what do we do now"; as we were when we walked up and they were all whining instead of bellowing.
He took the "yote' pup home and raised it with his dogs.
You cannot get much of a worse attitude than a captured coyote. But he was young.
The amazing part was as soon as he got home and put the pup in the kennel, the dogs never again made any aggressive actions toward it.
However the pup grew to be a pretty nice dog. Only time he would show any aggressive behavior was when he was part of the pack chasing other coyotes....:jiggy9:Just another example of many of why i love dogs and am allways amazed by some of the things they do.
I have one of the cutest dogs (almost dogs) you ever wanted to see. If i don't kill him and eat him i will show you one day. He has taught me the meaning of a "love hate relationship". One minute he is acting so smart and the next;well;that is when i want to eat him.......:jiggy9:

I worked with shelter and rescue dogs for several years and only saw a handful the entire time that couldn't be handled. Those had been so severely wounded emotionally that they could never develop trust in people. Down here the back-yard breeders pump out Pits and even the majority of them when treated properly were good dogs. You just have to understand that they like Chow's take protecting their pack/owner/territory VERY seriously. Nothing wrong with that as long as the owner recognizes it and keeps them securely separated from others.

One of our five dogs we currently have was considered a throw-a-way in the shelter. She was completley catatonic and it took me two months to get her to respond to me just a bit. At that point I brought her home and let my pack of mutts do the rest. I laid her down in the backyard and let my lab mix and my husky mix out with her. Within two minutes they had her running and playing in the backyard.

She is the most loving dog we have. However, she still doesn't trust anyone but my wife and I.

............, as much as you like 'wabbit' chasing, the perfect Halloween costume for you would be to dress up in a dog costume and race after cyclists while barking!

Or maybe threatening him with feeding him to the cat next door; which he seems to dislike quite strongly; will be enough of a shame to make him straighten up...:jiggy9:

    Sunday ride

Went out today for first ride in 18 days! Take my advice, get a pneumonia vaccine if you haven't already. Mine was a relatively minor case and still laid me out for over a week. A whopping 21 miles for the day. Very slow, as not only out of condition but pedaling hard irritated my throat and I'd start coughing. A grand total of 61 miles since Oct 8, 22 days. If Don & I hadn't made the New River trip earlier this month it would've been my poorest month this year. Blah, blah, blah. Somebody call the wam-bulance.
