This is a very weak cycling community. Right after the Tour de Drance each year there will be quite a few cyclist out. Teo months later 95% are gone.

Glad you are having good hunting season up there:trike:

Short ride but a beautiful day. 12.9 miles. Took a short 6 minute video of ride if you want to see the fall leaves in the Tennessee trees.

Rode the Bridgeburners in West Greene County TN. Got bit by
a dog. Riding to miss two, and one slipped up behind and got
my foot. Called 911 and they transferred me to the sheriff's
department. In short the deputy came and took the
report and four dogs were picked up by animal control.

I remember some dogs along that route. Bit thru shoe or further up? Hope he didn't get you much. Good for you, calling the police & animal control. But will they just let 'em go if an owner claims them?

Ankle, and shoe. Didn't break skin. Family pets.....boxers. "They wouldn't
bite a flea." Bicycles bring out the dog in pets. Anyway, these boxers had been
reported several times for running after bikers. This time the owners may get
    the message. We'll see.

I worked at an animal shelter for a couple of months and will typically happen is
the owner will get a written warning on how to keep the dogs in the yard and/or under better control. IF this is not the first time and they have a habit of doing this, and the owner doesn't come to claim them they will go to the nearest dog pound for adoption but if not adopted within a certain limit they will either be sent up north to be adopted or put down.

If the Animal Control Officer is Decent then the people will get issued a ticket for "Dogs running at Large" especially if this is not there first time. Andrea (my other half)is a Animal Control officer and I call her a "Dog Pig" :rofl9: She deals with that stuff on a daily basis. Usually the first time is a written warning then after that, ticket time.

The only thing bad about that job is we get a lot of animals. We have 5 dogs, raised 12 ducks, 3 squirrels, 4 Rabbits and anything else found along the side of the road.

I am not comfortable myself calling animal control or the Sheriff. (see my other post concerning my first bicycle). I am an animal lover, especially dogs. And i cannot bring myself, anymore, to risk a dogs life for being a dog.
I tend to try to handle it with the dog and/ or owner. If that escalates to the point the dog or owner decides to call them in, then we will go there. :jiggy9:

I use animal control as a last resort (as a threat) that is my last option. I love animals and even have a dog myself. But a dangerous dog is not good:no9: & if the owner continues to let his/her pet cause problems, I'll remedy it myself with a .223 and a shovel. Typically I don't do that unless the dog is really a problem or a cat killer. Any dog (even my own) that kills my cat is asking to be put 6' under.

Hey we must be twins. I love my animals so i want everyone that comes into contact with them to love them also. Or at least think they are some pretty special pets.
So just like i try to do with my children; i teach them to be good polite citizens.
I did have to kill a Lab Rotty mix;while on a ride a couple years ago. But he gave me no options. And he was in a gang so it was going to get ugly real fast (for me ) if i did not do something dramatic.
Actually the state trooper put him down, i just got him started in that direction. But i hated every minute of it.
Usually any pet that has become mean and/or vicious, is because of laziness and/or the viciousness on the part of the owner. :jiggy9:

Did a quick 15 miles this morning looking for that R.A.D. that was mentioned on another thread as a possible solution to my knee pain. Funny how people that do not have one don't think it is worth anything.
Then did 9.7 This afternoon. If i can get anything done around the house the next couple of days i am thinking about checking out some of the closer "cycling trails around here next week. If it happens; will try to remember pics....:jiggy9:

Well you know what they say...that a pet takes after its owner. Hmph, maybe so but I can't get my dog to run with me as I ride my recumbent...like someone else on here has managed to do. :wink9:

That is only partly True the majority of it is breeding. Some breeds are plain nasty. Bad breeding aka puppy mills churn out dogs that are not breed with the right temper-mate. I trained dogs for about 12+ years and saw a lot that nothing could be done with because of bad breeding. Those dogs you take out behind the wood shed, because they are risks to humans and other animals. Some German Shepherds are turning out this way. I have the nicest one you will ever see, because I got it from a reputable breeder. Some back yard breeders churn out junk yard dogs that are not fit to call a pet.
