A truly gorgeous day. Sunny, low humidity, low 80s, lite winds. Just goofed around 3 counties. 45 miles. More elevation change than the entire 104 miles last Saturday near Clarksville.
Hopefully fourth county tomorrow with Buddy and his Greene Co. hiking/biking group.

Truly a beautiful day. Started early, it was 59 degrees and my feet were pretty cold by the time we stopped after 35 miles. Warmed em up as we turned to face into the SUN for the return trip. Didn't see any deer Ed but lots of woodpeckers and hawks of various types. Finished with just over 63 miles and 3400 feet of climbing.

    Cades Cove ride II

Well, I took Pegasus to Cades cove to ride yesterday. It felt good to ride. I loved tearing down the hills in the curves and flying along the straights. I got some "oooh nice color", "cool bike" and "wow that looks nice"...from several guys! I was surprised, but hey for men to notice my bike that is a pretty nice compliment. The only draw back the bike has is that it does not have a low enough bottom gear, not to take on these TN hills. Small hills I went right up with no problem but the big ones...well needless to say I walked them, but that was ok. I did better than the last time. I only walked about ½ the hills as I did before. I need to some how build up left leg muscle strength though, so I can take on hills without having to get off and walk. Slowly and surely. There were a few times I would sit and rest a little once at the top of a big hill and the squirrels chattering up above would throw acorns on top my head...saw several deer and some bears. Also got to see a giant red headed wood pecker. It was a good ride, I wasn't totally worn out and was overall pretty happy with the performance of my bent and myself.

There were no tears this time.

    Riding lately

Exceptionally nice weather past couple of weeks. Been out pedaling 7 times this month. Exceeded my monthly goal of 300 miles for only the 4th month this year. 2,070 miles YTD. Not great but 3 months left in the year and already more miles than all of Y2010. Sure feels better with calm, 78 deg. days like of late.

Sunrise Century two Saturdays ago; 81 miles last weekend; 55 miles middle of past week; 76 miles this weekend. They seem to come in gulps rather than consistent smaller numbers. Keep September's 17.6 miles daily average up for the whole year & I could be up there with the big boys around 6,400 miles. Hey, I can dream, can't I? Instead s'pose I'll be content with around 2,500 miles. But... all I have to do is double my miles and the top of the RRI Bikejournal is mine. Bwahh-ha-ha-ha... Yes, I do believe in alternate universes and maybe I'm living in one now.

Not much distance this week but two 12 or so mile rides with my wife on her new Catrike 700. She hasn't been riding in a while so she has some building up to do. The weather has been perfect, she is really loving the trike and we are enjoying spending the extra time together.

Just back from BRAT 2011. I did 102 miles the first day, and the others averaged about 65-70 miles/day. The weather was great! We got a little rain, but it was at night. It sprinkled one morning, not enough to get my feet wet though. Food was good, too; usually catered by the park inns. The only 'minus' of the trip was the occasional lack of facilities - shortages of showers in a few places and rural routes with no good places to 'take care of business,' if ya know what I mean. I'm still totaling miles and going over notes and sorting pics; but a full report will happen eventually! I even took a few vids.

Ok I finally got all the videos uploaded from the Niagara Falls Recumbent ride. It was a great time since I have never road with that many trikes and recumbent's before. We did around 80 miles in 2 days and the Canada side was wonderful. The USA side is a dump.

Day #1 Andrea made it 40 miles with a little push here and there. It was her longest ride ever on her ADC built Mach 2

    Day #2 part 1

    Day #2 Part 2

    The Velomobile happening

I n this one you will see the "Leaning" Trikes. They were a blast to ride but took some getting used to.

    Let's ride!

Brian, the word envy comes to my mind..........., great coverage. Capturing the moment was realized. I wanna go!

This was the Cades Cove, TN ride from last Saturday featuring several 'well known' RRI contributors.

I think one can readily see how valuable it is to stay together on a group function in order to video document an event. For Brian to have operated a hand held camera, especially on a bike, and stopping to capture the group, speaks highly of the personal sacrifice one makes in the process. Well done Brian; now you get to watch the video to see what took place.

    Enjoy!

    Brian,

I saw my twin V Rex in your Videos. It was sooo cool seeing that many recumbents together.

I hope we can do the same thing for the Smoky Mountain Recumbent Rally next May. Put it on your calendar and come down and join us!!! My V Rex wants to meet its twin!!!
