Also had a run-in with Jerkboy and sidekick this evening. Pedaling along the highway right o' way minding my own business when passenger Jerkboy yells out the window "Get a real bike." By chance Jerkboy and company were stopped a little later at a light in town when I rode up and parked my fat self just out of arm's and door's reach. I wasn't gonna say anything, but Jerkboy again says to the driver, but loud enough for me to hear, "What a stupid lookin' thing" and looks around at me and smiles a missing-tooth SEG.

I've had a bad day and decided it wasn't gonna get any worse. Not seeing any evidence of a weapon, I looked Jerkboy straight in his bloodshot eyes and said, "I've had 3 neck bones fused, a blood clot that nearly killed me, and am three times your age. I cycle enough every year to ride coast to coast and am probably in better health now than you and 9/10 of your friends. And here you sit in your boyfriend's POS (it really was...) while he drives so you can make useless noise like a stray pussycat at night. Game of Life: me 1, you 0."

'bout that time the light changed and I didn't have time to comment on his mother's shady hereditary lineage, so we exchanged pleasant expletives and middle fingers, and went our merry little ways. If it escalated I figure we're on a busy public street, he's drunk, and I've got gloves, a helmet, metal cleated shoes, and a tire pump. My advantage.

After the pitiful trike ride the other day I took her back out for 55 miles on Wednesday. Not bad 3:37 ride time for a 15.4 mph average but it was a pretty flat ride. Thursday back on the Dragon for 60 miles with a 17.2 average. Nothing much in the legs just kept a high cadence and let my speed drop on the hills.

Sorry about your last ride, but hopefully here are a few word of encouragement....

    Ward my dear never fret
no one really likes to sweat.
The air was dry, the temperature hot
we know you gave it all you got.
Time to relax and get some AC,
all the while sipping on a cold sweet tea.

SUN filled morning, gentle breeze, the glistening dew
a brand new day, a brand new you.
    Muscles ready, heartbeat strong
to ride your bent, to glide quickly along.
Warrior of strength on such a perfect day,
get on your bent and ride the laid back way.

The next time you ride, you will be blessed
to ride so strong to give your best.
Your love of the ride, your love of the speed,
Driven by addiction others take heed.
But wait what is that, a DF to be found?
Time to let go, and release the greyhound.

Thanks Jon. I have been feeling really good these days, and felt sorry for him not having good ride. I can definitely relate.

I've been secretly riding my "new to me" bent down the back street and around Townsend when I have time and I can tell that my legs are coming back. They're getting stronger each time, not to mention that despite being "noodley" afterwards, it is not as bad and doesn't last as long. I'll be dismantling my bent this weekend getting it ready for a new powder coat. I won't say what it is, but I have already named it: Pegasus. I love riding horses so I figured it was a fitting name, since our bents are often referred to as "steeds" etc. I'll get pictures when I have it done.

Keila, I am honored by your prose. So glad to hear you are getting out a bit and I look forward to hearing more about Pegasus.

Brian, sorry man, I am in the middle of a fitness Challenge at work duking it out with another cyclist and a triathlete. I have even been swimming almost every night just to keep up.

    It hurts so good....

    It's fun to go out for a short Saturday morning ride;
even more fun to find a lot of fellow bicyclists outside as well!

At the 21-mile point, I saw a pair of cyclists going my way,
sort of, and - gee, my cadence ramped up.

I closed the gap to withing 100 meters, when I reached my
planned turn-off... so, technically, they got away.

The evil unsupervised and unaltered American Bulldog
chased me... but with the tail-wind and my speed-in-hand,
    he was doomed to fail.
    I got away.
A cyclist heading towards me was approaching the intersection (where the evil bulldog attacks) I'd just left, so I braked and signalled for his attention and warned him of the bull dog....
then sped back up to 24mph.

Great workout, keeping my speed up and (hopefully) impressing the
    cyclists sharing the road!

    ---

Saw a powdery robin's egg blue pickup with an adult male driver...
    I glared and he scowled.

Like the previously posted run-in with JerkBoy-andSideKick, I feel warmed-up, gloved, helmeted and fueled with fury....

    ---

36 miles-of-smiles, spiced with one scowl, at an average speed of 15 .5mph.

A beautiful day, out at 7am, no clouds and no wind. We headed south from Geneva, Ga down some nicely paved rural highways with almost no traffic. There were some rolling hills but these were REAL rollers not the short little walls of climbing I am used to. 35 miles later we were ready to begin the longer route homeward.

We turned west into a headwind that we hadn't noticed before. Felt like a 10-15 with gusts much higher. We would battle that wind for the next 35 miles. The good news...with the breeze it was much cooler than it would have been. The route was well chosen with good shade until about 11am.

So 77 miles in 4:55 rolling and 5:24 total time and 3490 elevation gain and a 15.7 moving speed. With the number of miles I have on the legs in the past few weeks I am real happy with that.

Yeah, today's winds from the north as part of the outer-outer bands of hurricane Irene made for a tougher ride outbound but a "breeze" southbound. But a beautiful day. Felt a bit guilty knowing what some are dealing with further east of us. Hope all are safe and property intact.

I had no rides Friday and Sat due to the Hurricane rains. We ddint get much more than rain and a few trees knocked down. The wind was still pretty bad today but by mid afternoon the wind had dried the roads up. So i did a 3o mile loop getting blown all over the road.. ONe gust hit me so hard it almost ripped my helmet off my head.

    30.4
    14
    13.5 Mph average.
