May not get to do much riding this week my nephew whom i worked with side by side for about the past 20 years finally decided to have his cough looked at. (We have both been fighting a dry cough for a couple years.) So they have put him in the hospital said he has something; possibly from all the asbestos we cleaned up; and they can not do anything for him. So i am going to be trying to help him out this week till he gets done with the hospital crap and decides how he is going to handle it.......Pray for him. And me...

Gene, you both will be in my prayers. I don't know how far along his illness is but I do know that all Cancer treatment centers are not alike. MD Anderson in Houston, Tx is the best and Johns Hopkins in Baltimore, MD is a close second. They will have treatments available that other centers might not have.

    God Bless

Weatherman was wrong. It never made it above 45 deg. today, but still went out for 27 miles before I ran out of warmth. Only the second ride this month; only 3 rides in December for a whopping 79 miles. Spring is only 8 weeks away. At this rate I'll top 700 miles in 2011.

That's harsh news, Gene. I'll keep you both in my thoughts and hope things improve. Sounds like you've had a rough year or so. :sad9:

Club Ride today of 18.4 miles. My left foot kept cramping up because it was so cold, or at least felt that way. Other than that it was a great ride. Another Recumbent rider showed up today on a Gold Rush so it was fun riding with him. But he was hard to keep up with and he is 70+ years old..lol. I had to keep stopping or slowing down because of cramps, until I finally warmed up. I am so tired of the cold weather.

Tried another day of riding, at least the SUN was out..lol 23 Deg with the wind chill blowing (10 mph)it was 14.4. Still made it 18 miles

Started out a just as a jaunt around town went down by the river, took a new Gravel Trail that runs along side it up to the Strasburg High School. My Oldest goes to the School and she said some kids were making fun of me onthe bike and I ask her "did you tell em it was your dad?". She said "NO WAY!" I guess the kids got a kick out of seeing someone riding a bike with a normal seat on it. One of the teachers told the kids that the reason people ride bikes like that is that there old and have back problems.. :jiggy9: I'll have to drop by the school one day for show and tell and let them know I don't have any medical issues what so ever, its just fun!

There was a real big glitch in my GPS stated that My top speed was 296 mph with a max grade of 30%---LOL

I love this pic though..looks like the heavenly sun is shining down on our beloved recumbent..lol

A balmy 30 degrees at 8am when we started this morning. Winds were light and we were looking at sunny skies. Within the first 5 miles the wind started picking up coming out of the north right in our face. The fairing directs the wind right into my eyes and boy were they cold.

The road starts out with several climbs 156 feet worth in 1.6 miles and by mile 22 we were over 1000 feet. One climb in particular is wicked steep and about as long as you can find around here (see Picture). The backside is worth it with long sweeping curves that last for almost two miles. It was just after that downhill that my chain broke yet again. I was carrying spare links and have a real good chain tool now so it hardly slowed us down. There was an annoying tick in the drive train though that I attributed to a somewhat sticky link that I had added.

We decided to cut the ride a bit short and turn on a previously untried road. Luckily it was not only well paved but we stumbled upon a small church that was having a pancake breakfast. Five bucks later we were up to our chins in hot cakes, sausage and bacon which twenty or so people watched with curiosity. We handled lots of questions about riding in the cold but since the trike was outside no one asked about bents.

It was with heavy stomachs that we loaded back up and went back out into the cold. The temp was probably about 35 now and with the sun more overhead it was almost feeling warm. We had turned the corner and now were running with the wind at our backs. The wind was just at the right angle for a while to make the fairing a sail and I crested a fairly steep hill still running 24 mph.

Overall 45 miles with right at a 12 mph average. Not bad considering the stops and messing with the chain.

A couple of years ago I made the mistake of leaving home without eating enough earlier. Was starved after about 20 miles. Stopped at a fast-food pasta joint. Ate way too much. Now nearly 20 hilly miles from the car and it was summer with +85 deg. Suffice to say I didn't make it back to the car with all the spaghetti on board. Several mistakes that day not to be repeated.

    :jiggy9: I got to ride today!!! :jiggy9:

First time in three weeks. That brings my total mileage up to a whopping 48 miles in January. :hissyfit9:

My two criteria were met. It had to be 40 degrees (was 42 when I left. Now 52.) And sunny. Finally met BOTH conditions for two days in a row so out I went.

I am glad to report my tires held air and I had NO FLATS this ride. So all is looking good for 2011!!! :biggrin9: At this rate I will do 600 miles this year! :hissyfit9:
