    Trikes on distance and speed

I admire anyone who tests their courage to push the envelope with a trike. I strongly feel that with riders reaching further into speed and endurance on trikes, positive progress will be made. I've got Mark at Power On helping me set up for a Century next month. For a newbie triker 69 years old to even consider this is a little twisted, but I'm working on a few 'tricks' learned from past experience with soap box derby cars and other lessons learned along the way. Will I make it? In my mind, I already have!

Thanks guys/gals for not being afraid to post trike news.

As I recall the only swearing was at myself for being so out of shape and worn out by the end of the day. Maybe a few cross words from Don when he had a flat in the last 20 miles. We have strange and wonderful relationships; you figure which are strange and which are wonderful.

BTW, Buddy has figured out how to never slow anybody down again. Unfortunately his solution makes it impossible to keep up with him.

Ha ha, I'd about forgotten about that. You'd have a cross word or two too if you flatted at mile 93.... Also remember I wolfed down 6 twinkies just before that at that last rest stop that time. SIX!!! I ain't had that many in the last 50 years combined! Those were the days....

Now and then I have fleeting thoughts of going back with the Corsa and probably shaving off 30 min or an hour off that second time we did it a couple years ago. Then I think, why would I want to do that???.....

I FINALLY got a ride in. Between crummy weather and my busy working schedule, I haven't ridden much at all these last three weeks.

Well today it was dry and my work schedule was flexible so off I went. It was 51 degrees when I started and warmed up to a balmy 54 degrees when I got back. Only got 16.4 miles in but that is much better than NOTHING which I have been doing a lot lately. I had to get out my light winter gear for this weather. Long pants and jersey, liner gloves and my wind breaker. But I was warm and having FUN!!!

I see on Bike Journal, Dave "Knees in the Breeze" passed me and Tadpole and Psychlist are breathing down my neck. Need to ride like mad, otherwise I am going to be left all alone in next to last place.

Don't worry Buddy, your last place finish is assured with your 41 miles. Oh wait, AD is in last place. So Buddy, you are moving up the bent chain!! :congrats:

I hear you on the crummy weather, Jon. Snow in May! It's not sticking to the ground or anything and well mixed with rain, but nothing I want to ride in. Two days I've had to watch pass on this vacation without a ride. *sigh*

    Hopefully tomorrow will be better.

BTW, this is the first May snow since 1986 or so according to my husband. :p

Yes! :jiggy9: It was below freezing and cloudy when I woke this morning, but by 8 am, the SUN broke out and we warmed to about 40 F. Hubby and I got moving and I plopped into my seat at 10:30 while Jens went to find a place to fish.

The sun got kinda watery as it came through thin clouds with thicker ones drifting around. The clouds built up as I rode on. Loke was a machine. :yes9: He actually picked up his cruising speed to 8.5 - 9.2 mph for the last 6 miles. His legs just kept chugging to and fro and eating up the miles.

We covered 32.53 miles and I was out for 7 hours. 45 min of it was spent walking around an old ruined fornborg (fortified village). I walked around a few minutes here and there at grave fields and to check out signs for national parks to see if they had anything interesting too. Then of course, stopping for photos.

A great day and my longest ride of the year by about 5 miles! :jiggy9:

Went out with the "Seasoned Riders" or the Winchester Wheelmen Retired/Day off ride. It was pretty chilly at the 10 am start but warmed up a bit as the ride progressed. We rode for 21 miles before stopping for lunch at Locke's store in Millwood, VA. Coming back we had a terrible headwind making it slow going. The Total ride was 34.4 miles. My GPS died about half way through the ride. I should have changed the batteries, but I forget stuff like that.

Another ride today! No where near as fast as yesterday and Loke wasn't as much of a machine, which is understandable. We got a few more places photoed and covered 21 or so miles. The last half of it was brutal thanks to the shift in the wind. It's been coming out of the north for most of the week and today, it decided to come out of the south. My legs hate me right now!

Well all i can say is- Its over. I finished the D.C, 300k in 18 hours 15 minutes, I stopped for about 2 hours total. I was totally done at mile 134, I stopped for a bit of pizza and could barely choke down one slice. I was sick to my stomach. So i rested a bit and got back on the bike. I found out that once you hit a certain point, nothing gets worse, you just find a comfortable miserable level. I think my total ride mph was 11.7-speedster.

It started off chilly, but then warmed up (I got bad sunburn on my legs). Then in the evening we got hit with a nice cold rain that lasted about an hour. I think it hit around 7 pm and it was getting cold again, the rain didn't help at all.

There were a couple of point were i said "the **** with this" but kept on trucking. MY lighting system sucks for riding in total darkness, I guess ill have to figure out a better system.

I found a neat trick with guard rails. While attempting to climb Flat top mountain I needed a rest to i pedaled over to a guard rail and grabbed it to take a breather, then pushed off..lol
