First ride in a week because my wife had shoulder surgery. 42 miles on the trike with a 14.5 average on a pretty flat route with just 1000 feet of climbing. Nothing much to say except it was a beautiful cloudless day, a little cool with the temps in the 50's to low 60's.

I did manage to hold off a DF rider for about 5 miles :biggrin9:

    Paul & Ed,

Really enjoyed your videos of the Redbud ride. I especially liked the part where you have to turn your trikes into boats to cross the flooded road.

With all the rain and flooding they should rename it the Reptile Ride!!!

I first imagined my feet might getting wet, but if you'll notice the bent bike that came thru clearly brings to mind the elevated crank being noticeably higher than the standard lower bike-locations AND SHALLOW WATER PONDING. Now, all I'll have to remember is to bring a large butt-bag or else a thick phone book!

Ward, you and your wife are sounding more like me and my wife....

On the other hand, I wanted to go for a ride yesterday but snow and 35+ mph wind with temperature in the 30's caused me to do other things.

So today.....28 degrees and snowing. The snow we got yesterday melted so I guess we had to get more to keep the ground that familiar white.

Where's Keila? She likes this snow...

Snow? Did someone say snow??? I bet it sure is pretty. As for me, I have been doing a lot of reading on here, but not had a much to say, especially when I am too busy designing and issuing Purchase Orders. Whew! A girls work is never done. I have been walking A LOT, what else can I do, since my man hasn't built my bike yet:gripe:.I get all the enjoyment of reading everyone else's adventures, but can't make any of my own.:hissyfit9: I am getting very uptight as the weather continues to get better and I can't bike. .:eek9:

gomentum -- what keeps your bike up

Rode to work today. Then I rode home by a different route from usual. I had an errand to run in Oak Ridge so I went out the west portal from the lab and took highway 95 into town.

Got to do almost 3 miles of barrel-dodging where they're widening the road (and eventually adding bike lanes! woohoo!), then got to the part that has been widened and got to ride in a smooth, wide, luxurious bike lane for about four miles. It was so nice.

At the errand location, a lady asked if my bike is hard to ride. I wanted to say not as long as you get going and get enough momentum with the first push when you're starting off. Well, it came out as, "As long as you get enough gomentum off that first push, you're fine." So now I know what keeps bikes from falling over -- gomentum.

After completing the errand, I proceeded on toward home. About a mile from the house, riding through one of our older residential areas, a lady on the sidewalk waved at me. I waved back, then really looked at her and realized she had an orange parrot riding on her shoulder. That gave me a real big smile. It was like icing on the cake of one of the nicest rides I've enjoyed this year.

26.25 miles in 1:59:52 pedal time, broken up into three segments -- to work, work to errand, errand to home. I've only had one longer ride this year -- 26.34 on April 2.

Oh your description of the pavemet sounds like heaven. To ride on fresh pavement is an awesome thing. I still haven't gotten to ride around Cades Cove yet...(sigh) one of these days.

But that is how you end up doing a Century (if you want to). When I started riding, I thought Centuries (100 miles) was for MANIACS. Now I am one. But it took me 3 years to get there. And I started with 10 - 15 mile rides. My first organized ride I did 26 miles. Then later that year I did 50 miles. Then the next year I did a Metric Century (62 miles) and the following year a full Century. I still normally ride just 14 - 20 miles at lunch but I push it to get my strength up. That seems to work form me.

So :congrats: on increasing your second longest ride. Keep it up and you will be AMAZED :wideeyed: how far you can go and have FUN doing the ride. (Remember, we don't have to put up with the pain DF riders have to deal with!!!)

Hmmm. Shoulder surgeries seem to be going around. My SIL had hers last week. They'd thought to do it via scope, but it turned out to be too much damage and they had to do a full blow surgery. She's healing quick and says the pain is diminishing.

Hope your wife is healing well!

Loke and I just got back from a ride. It felt hard while I was doing it, but now that it's over, I'm not feeling it much. Odd. 23+ miles in beautiful weather around 60 F with little wind while pulling the trailer carrying double the amount of water I took last time. Fields are turning green where they aren't being plowed and spawning little dust devils. Even the trees are starting to get that softly, fuzzy look of leaves starting to bud. I also spotted a tulip in someone's yard that I see every year. Hard to believe it's already bloomed!

Paul's view ofthe Redbud Ride 2011

Hey Wingman, let's see if I have ya covered here?

I spoke with Paul just a moment ago and told him I'd try to post his videos. I remember one scene at the beginning of #2 where he comes flying by me like I was standing still and he's asking, "Why are you slowing down?". What's so funny to me about that is that there were two huge warning's painted on the pavement, "SLOW", and evidently he missed seeing them. Well, I had already stored my camera thinking I wasn't going to be able to 'play', but Paul is soon realizing that he has 'dropped in' as a skateboarder would say after rolling off the edge of a high ramp. Soon you'll see his camera view describing his ride. I believe that was the hill where I hit 38MPH while dragging the brakes.

If any of you are wondering why I ride with this madman, his videos capture the the answer. He's like having along a complete home entertainment center...................; CRANK IT UP!

18 miles today with our Thursday group. 2 recumbent, and 3 DF. Very windy all the way. I took it fairly easy because i have another 200k Brevet I am doing this Saturday.
