There should be an o-ring between the 2 halves of the housing. Could be defective or not in the groove completely.

My Cateye slip-clicks onto the base to make two contacts. Occasionally (couple of weeks or so) I have to pull it off the base and wipe the contacts to get a good connection; it's a tiny signal and easily lost. Otherwise guess you could throw some Saran Wrap around it. Did it start working again after it "dried out"? Best to just not ride in the rain.

I cheat. I use a Garmin GPS. Nothing external to connect except the handlebar mount.

I guess I should post about my ride. The first one this year!!!! Last Saturday Spring arrived and that was followed by Summer arriving on Sunday. I could hardly believe it topped 80 degrees on Sunday but it surely felt great.

It was just too much so I took the bike off the trainer and pumped up the tires and waved goodbye to the wife but told her to stay by the phone just in case. The hip took it quite well and although I had not much power and no speed to speak of it really was nice to get out to enjoy that weather. I only went 15 miles but at least I got out.

Then the weather turned a bit on us again to bring us back to reality. Yesterday would have been another nice day to ride as we hit 60 again and sunny but the body has other ideas. It's not just the hip but the ongoing thing with the back problems and other things. Today is another down day for me so I'll just sit here and type for a while.

But anyway, I just thought maybe it would be good to let you guys and gals know that we are still alive up here. I won't head to Lansing for fear I'd see John and he'd make me look really bad. lol

And absolutely glorious day. Clear skies, little wind and perfect temps. 25.77 miles. I picked a nice route with pretty scenery. I felt great physically too!

The only drawback was I think the skin on Loke's paw-pads has gotten WAY too thin or I'd have done more mileage. Unfortunately, I didn't have any socks for him. So, we settled in along a dirt road lined by pine trees. There was a nice grassy verge and good shade so it was a pleasant wait.

    I'll blog it tomorrow.

    Tom,

it must be nice to be close enough to ride to and from work. Unfortunately, the only time I could even consider that is when I work from home! My office is 50 miles away. Come on retirement!!!!

    Jon and Brian,

Another reason why I have to like you two, you also go with the Garmin GPS, it's so much easier to use and moving it between bikes does not mean having to recalibrate anything!!!

Great day out today after several days with nothing but rain. Went with the older riders on the Retired/Day off riders. My buddy Fred showed up and I stuck with him for a very leisurely 31.7 miles. Visited some never before traveled roads and had a blast

Okay. Yesterday's ride blogged. Took me ages. Quite a few pictures with no less than NINE runestones. I threw in some scenery, flowers and butterflies for good measure too.

Pity I didn't get to ride again today. It's beautiful out. *sigh*

I really want to build myself up for our vacation in the first week of May. Jens, Loke and I are going to Öland. :jiggy9:

Rode today before it rain. Broke the 500 mile mark for the year today (501 total). Doing pretty good at riding at least 3 times a week at lunch. I am on a 1,500 mile pace which is normal for me.

Dave and Tadpole are nipping at my heals so I need to keep getting out there!!! (Gives them something to shoot for!)

I was looking at Tennessee clubs and we have TWICE as many miles logged as the Smoky Mountain Wheelmen!!!

We are in SECOND PLACE with all Tennessee bicycle clubs logging miles on Bike Journal. There is a maniac club called the Memphis Hightailers with 28,085 miles logged so far. WOW!!!!

I rode today. Just a 'quick' local loop slowed down by wind and dragging my Burley with a few bottles of water. Training for a tour. I WILL tour this year... d*mmit all. :p

    Not much to blog though.

A few of us rode today after the great amount of rain we had yesterday. We rode up Ft. Valley to the top of Edinburg Mtn and back. 36.2 miles with 2000+ feet of climbing. On the way out we had a terrible wind that kept our speeds down well below 9 mph. On the way back we had the winds at our back and finished with a 13.5 mph average. Hills plus wind really sucks. We also had to dodge a a lot of gravel and dirt that has washed in the roadway.

Get this-There were some places that water was coming off the hills and this one particular spot had about 2 inches of water going across the road. As my luck would have it I road through this spot at the exact same time as a car coming at me in the opposite direction, I got drenched. Could this happen twice? Only to me! At the exact same spot on the return trip a car was hauling *** and got me again. Two times in one ride at the same spot. Soak and wet! Everyone got a kick out of it but me..:hissyfit9:

After the ride I came back home and got Andrea on her Recumbent with the kids and we did 6 miles around the hood. So today's total was 42+ miles.

Here is a video I took of the high water. The first part is Passage Creek and I have never seen that creek so high. The second part is the Shenandoah river in Strasburg.

It had it all; four routes/miles from which to choose (Yellow-23, Orange-38, Green-70, Red-102, streets, roads, hills, flatland, downed limbs, flooded roadways, rain, sunshine, 50* - 60* temp, food, bluegrass music, (2) RRI trikers from Tennessee (Paul & I) and (1) hand-crank Lay-Down trike, and almost 600 bikes (very few recumbents; only saw one), kids, dogs fun & pain, not to mention enough hospitality to last until next year.

    Paul & I rode the Orange 38-mile route............, it's a Tennessee thing! http://www.redbudride.com/route.html
