South Knoxville ride yesterday Mar 19th

Lovely easy ride starting at French memorial park. Martin Mill Pike - Stock Creek - Mcgammon-Stock Creek- Martin Mill Pike - French memorial Park.

This is one of my favorite rides when I do not have time or am out of shape . Only 10 miles but some hills and awesome scenery.

Nice Sunny Afternoon. Took my time and stopped often to take pictures.
I will have to figure out how to crunch down the pictures to include them.

Well my First ever 200k Brevet is in the books. It was not pretty I finished with an hour to spare and there were 3-4 people behind me. I was completley cooked by the time I made it back to the finish. I came home and slept from 9:30 pm to 8:30 am but feel pretty good this morning.

    I had a few firsts:

    First Brevet
Farthest I have ever ridden a bike/bent-129.7 miles
    Longest I have ever ridden a bike/bent-11:30 Moving time/ 12:30 total
    Fastest speed reached 44.4 MPH
Most climbing ever on one ride-7,664 ft.
Most cussing I have ever done on a bike/bent-last 30 miles into a headwind-It was terrible after all the Hills we just through.
Never got lost- No bonus miles! Double check Cue Sheet at all times.

    Lessons Learned:

SUNSCREEN!!! I had some in my pack but I never put it on. Now my legs and arms are fried. "It didn't seem to bad" Is not an excuse to not use it!

Eating-I tried to time my eating and used one of those hammer and GU packets every hour. It wasn't enough-I ate a sandwich and chips at the half way point. I almost bonked at mile 103 I had to stop and suck down 2 packets and eat a cliff bar. Then a at 110 same thing. I had no energy left what so ever. I was in my granny gear the last 10 miles. (I still need help in this area.)

Gears- I will never ever regret putting that granny gear on the front-It was a 100% life saver. If i didn't have it I would have been done at mile 66.

Recumbent-I would have never finished on a regular bike. The only thing that was hurting on the Rex was my legs. I would have thrown a DF in the ditch and walked home. My butt was actually getting a litte sore at mile 100, but nothign like it would have been on a hatchet seat. (Recumbutt?)

Keep Pedaling! Just keep those things turning no matter how slow your going.

Just think I get to do it all over again this coming Sat March 25th...:hissyfit9:

Bakrauf, I'm really impressed. I could never do that, at least not now. I especially like how you stuck with it. You should be proud. Hope you recover before next week. Good luck.

Brian! Great going! I was wore at at 69.7 miles on the Solvang Century. That was after about 9 hours. Yes, wind and hills both are really bad, especially when they're together. And I hear you about the seats. If your behind was getting sore, you might try lowering your sprint brace one or two notches. I lowered mine three notches and that took care of my "soreness". As for soreness from my attempted century, it was simply totally wiped legs, but no pain.

Jon, beautiful area to ride. It looks like the only problems you would have to make the ride difficult is either to have wind or too much sand on the road! Enjoy, because I'm jealous.

Yes it is in south knoxville. I have been going there for years off and on.
Traffic is not heavy and the scenery reminds me of pictures I see of Ireland.
More built up then it use to be.
Start is at Fench memorial park for the 10 mile ride.
When I get back in shape I will just start at my house. I live in south knoxville too on Brown.
Lots of hills so I have a little way to go yet. There are longer routes if you are up to it.
Bicycling Routes by Elle Colquitt and Jon Livengood have quite a few.
For a while I was just using microsoft streets and trips to make a route of a desired distance somewher in South knoxville.
    start point address.

Well, I went for a ride yesterday. The first in 5 days though the ride on the 15th was a measly 3 miles. I really should have taken it as a rest day.

I rode out toward a little village called Vänge, I've gone through countless times and with the addition of going to Loke's vet to schedule his yearly vaccinations, it came out to 20.24 miles. The longest of the year! :jiggy9:

Along one stretch, I had a bit of a scare. A steep hill with ice, an excited husky wanting to charge down it to meet another dog, slick tires on my breaking wheels and an innocent pedestrian between Loke and the other dog at the bottom. :eek9: I covered some of the hill sideways until I started steering with my heels on the ice.

Oh! And I found a runestone at the church I'd never bothered to check in spite of passing it so many times. :rolleyes9:

Pictures of the church and runestone and the ride blogged including the scary downhill descent.

Brian, great job! Yep, I agree about having a granny gear, its the bomb. Sorry I didn't think to mention sunscreen to you, I use spf 70 on my longer rides and it lasts pretty well.

Terii you dog sledding again :wink9: Sounds like you just need to start training for the Alaska bike Iditarod.

    Jon, Sally beautiful rides

Me, I rode the St. Patrick's day century in Dublin, Ga. Brian, we had the same winds just not as much climbing, 4000 feet almost exactly over 103 miles I finished with a total time of 5:58 and a moving average of 18.0. We played tag with the lead peleton the entire ride, they would pass us and then stop at a SAG and we would keep going. Ten miles later we would see them coming. I rode with Marshall and he and I didn't draft at all, empty roads so we just rode side by side and talked the whole time, nice. Three fast guys broke off the main group and passed us at mile 93 and the main peleton of 8 riders passed at mile 94. I didn't have anything left to hold them off with after fighting the wind all day so I just waved em by.

No pictures, sorry:sad9: I forgot both my phone and my camera.

:nono: (bad boy) can't let that happen again now can we? (kidding)...

With the weather being so good I am tempted to get on Willie G's bike and practice on the loop, but it keeps getting flats...must have something wrong with the rim.
