    If I ever get to travel towards the Tennessee area I will have to get in contact. I occasionally ride with a friend from work who got me started on bents, but normally I’m either by myself or with friends on DFs. And, after all I’ve read about everyone back there, it would be fun to meet everyone.

    And friendly competition is good for everyone involved. It helps us stretch to do that little extra to improve. Now, if I can ever recover from last Saturday! :jiggy9:

    Curtis,

    You are in trouble. So far I have ridden 93 miles this week. I should ride 50 miles more before the end of the week. This is my bicycle riding vacation (until I ride the Erie Canal ride in summer) After which, I will slow down.

    If you are ever in East Tennessee, we will ride together. I promise and will make it happen!!!

    PS I took HD videos of my rides. I will be posting them soon. Hope they look good!!!! You will find out soon!

    Well Happy St. Patrick's Day!!! I am not Irish but to celebrate the day, I rode on the Black Water River Trail. This ride had slowly sloping hills and NO WIND! Two very different attributes from my beach rides.

    Took some videos yesterday on my beach ride with a Flip camera. Will try to upload it, but I am on an air card with marginal reception so I may wait until next week when I am back at the office or home.

    Enjoy your vacation Jon, I think my first attempt at vacationing will be in July, and although I'll take my bike, I'll probably not get too many miles on it. When you go from sea level to 6,000' agl, it takes a while to get used to and my wife only wants to camp for a week. I'll swap out the thin tires for wide tires on my RANS and do som trail riding. Won't be many miles, but will be fun. I'll just need to remember to bring a camera along to grab some pictures of King's Canyon National Park and perhaps a few sequoia trees.

    Wow, a Century (valiant attempt)!
    And in the Solvang area, one of my old CA. stopping places, when
    I test-rode motorcycles.

    And triking through slushy ice!

    ---

    It's 79F. here, at the moment.

    I just finished an 18 mile ride an at easy pace...
    for me, an easy pace is anything less than a 16.5mph average.

    Boy, am I out of shape!

    But what a nice day, here in East TN.
    Flowers.
    Flowering trees.
    Greening, growing grass.
    Peepers (small, vocal Frogs) calling from the wet places....

    All the Spring beauty highlighted, by contrast, with a few grim-faced
    commuters zooming by too close, feet buried deep in their throttles;
    the loose pitbull-cross, an un-neutered dog, going after my rear tyre;
    the lone stone-faced D.F. rider declining to make eye-contact.

    Ahhh, Spring!

    Nice Easy 25 mile today with the Retiree bunch from the Winchester Wheelmen. 13 mph avg with 1200 ft of climbing.

    I was going to take the entire week off because Sat I have my first 200k (130 mile) brevet. We push of at 7am and I hope to make it all the way. We will see.

    First club ride of the year for me today. It was 23 miles, and relatively flat (only a few small hills.) I think it got to about 45F during the ride. But the weatherman only predicted 6 mph winds, and they were more like 12-15 mph. Which didn't seem to bother me as much as it did the others on their uprights. Overall, we averaged 16.8 mph.

    In this chilly weather, my bladder definitely let me know it was ready for a stop!

    Hi Paul,

    You don't know this but we have a cabin right off Rainbow Road which connects Collier Drive which you were riding on. So I knew EXACTLY where you were riding. Great job. We will need to ride there together this summer!!!

    For this ride, Paul drove to my house which is in the Apple Barn area and on the river, about 2 miles from Rainbow/Collier intersection. Note: In the summer my Son, his friends & I kayak from our house past Governors Crossing and on to the dam about another 1/2 mile downstream from the Collier bridge and back. BTW: When it comes to ridin', Paul's go button has a hair trigger!

    As for heading toward Veteran's Blvd on this hill, Paul loves to watch me fade into the distance to the rear. But this was the first time I detected some of his panting as he neared the summit; now I don't feel so bad!

    I'll be posting today's 18 mile ride (Paul, Alvin, Ed) when it get's done 'cooking'.
