I've gotten out for a few rides since I last returned from my hiatus from the forum.

This last ride though, just wow. I'm working on the write up this morning and I still giggle like a school girl over how great it went as I type it.

It was my best ride since before the winter of 2020. It was my fastest since then, maybe even before then. I felt the best I have in _years_. Nothing hurt, I felt strong and had bucket loads of stamina. Just... completely blew my mind. That's even BEFORE I came up on a bull moose less than 30 feet away and got buzzed by a falcon about 10-15 feet away at (trike) head height. Sadly, no photos of the moose, it happened so quick it was disappearing as I got my phone out of the handlebar bag. But magnificent.

The post will be going up soon. Not much in the way of photos though as it was all on the Rimbo rail-trail again. I've photographed just about every foot of that stretch, so I don't tend to take more unless something very interesting pops up.

More rides with reports on my blog of course. I've had quite a few shorter rides since the one on August 23rd with the bull moose and blinding fast speeds (for me). Some of them have felt pretty rough as I was ride-free and no gym visits for over a week, but this last ride on September 6th seems to be getting me back into the stride.

    Enjoy!

I don't think anyone is quite back to themselves yet due to the lock down. The best way to get back is to get out and just do it.:yes9:

Jon, you still working? I thought you had retired? I bet riding in FL is nice for sure. The breezes must be amazing.

Ward, your stats are still good. It's always a Challenge to maintain heath and stamina after being down for a year or more. I'm still working on just getting my cardio back in shape.:exercise::trainer:

    Got out again!

And drat it, that 3% ride (which will also be longest of the year) is proving difficult. For those who don't know, the 3% refers to the virtual challenges I started doing this year. My current one is a part of a series that covers the distance of the journey that Frodo went from the Shire to Mount Doom with the One Ring. The first of the series was 145 miles across the shire to the Prancing Pony in Bree. I am now in the midst of a virtual journey from Bree to the gates of the Mines of Moria for a total of 680 miles. 1% of the current challenge is, of course, 6.8 miles which is the minimum distance I've been trying to do with most of my rides. Generally I've gotten more, between the 8 - 10 mile range. My current goal is to do a 3% ride which is 20.4 miles, but rounded up to a minimum of 21 miles. My current longest ride of the year is about 18 miles which was also the fastest ride in 2 years done on August 23rd. The same day I came upon the moose.

Yesterday's attempt at the 3% failed because one of my knees decided to be naughty. Even though I was going slow and taking it easy in the lower gears, around mile 12 it suddenly felt like my right knee was getting stabbed with an ice pick. I had to settle for 17+ miles after 'limping' the trike back to the car with very slow pedaling and lots of breaks. Met a woman with the cutest, sweetest little puppy. And with the 17 miles, I did make it to Bilbo's trolls in the challenge.

No photos except for a screen shot of the virtual postcard for the accomplishment of reaching the trolls which were turned to stone by sunlight in the Hobbit. Next stop on the journey is of course, Rivendell.

Full write up and general babble about stats on my blog.

Sorry for the silence. But UGH! It's been a rough 5+ weeks. Issues with my knees. Then we took the car to the body shop to get the slightly crunched bumper fixed. THAT turned into a huge fiasco one can read about in my blog posts. 5-10 business days turned into 20 with them requiring 3 attempts to order the correct parts. The rental car they gave us was a nightmare. One had have mad circus contortion skills to get into and flop around like a beached dolphin to get out of. Worse than that, it had no hitch. Throw in said knee issues, I really needed flat places to ride, but with no hitch, no rack to carry the trike to King's Meadow by the river or Rimbo Rail Trail for riding. I couldn't handle the hills around the house, so... no riding. For over a month.

It's so nice to get the car back and now the hard work begins to get myself back to the point with stronger knees that can belt out a ride with a moving average of over 8 mph again.

Also, I have to do some serious catching up on my current leg of the Lord of the Rings virtual challenges. I was +5% ahead. Now, I'm like -6% behind. *snarl*

I did get a ride in yesterday. Just 3.23 miles, but it was good to get rolling again at King's Meadow, up to the Uppsala city park, and back to the car. I wasn't feeling well enough to push for more. I think I'm fighting a cold or something. At least the Covid test came out negative. With so many muscle aches and not wanting to aggravate my knees, I took it slow and easy and still came out with a 5.6 mph moving average, so I guess I'm a bit better off than I thought. :)

Two days, two rides. Jens determinedly dragged me out the door for yesterday's ride. I rode from just north of Uppsala at Old Uppsala to just south at Kungsängen. A whopping 6.5 miles.

It might be pretty by that lake, but I'll avoid that section of the old rail line now. I'd hate to have to replace trike parts again by finding 1 foot deep holes the hard way. :p

Got a couple rides in since the one that damaged the trike. 3 I think? Ride reports on the blog of course. The last Rimbo ride turned into a fiasco as, not only did I forget to lock the car as I left it to go ride the paved rail-trail, but I didn't even CLOSE the back driver side door. *bangs head on desk* Not my finest hour.

I guess I was just too foggy headed with the cold I've been fighting for most of a week. I got out for a local ride yesterday as we head into a November Spring. Temps have been so crazy warm that flowers like red clover, Queen Anne's Lace, and more are coming up. Trees are putting out leaves including our cherry and apple trees.

Yesterday wasn't much of a ride as my muscles and feet weren't cooperating, but at least I got a few miles done. This weekend is supposed to be about 60 F, so we'll see if I can get more distance in.

And another ride report. I've managed 3 rides in 5 days. That's an improvement.

The report is 2 rides in one post. Just more hamster tracking along the river, but the last one was in fog which offered a couple of interesting if murky photos. :p

My ride report is pathetic compared to this... and I wasn't on a real recumbent either. I was on a stationary recumbent bike in the gym I'm going to. I lost my Bionic unit a couple of years ago and without, I can get the nerves in my left leg to function as well, so no riding outdoors. However, I did a "rolling" hills ride that had me huffing.:trainer:
