Glad to hear you have some heel straps, some folks fashion them out of stainless steel boat cable to route down behind their heels. clipless shoes/pedals is what you want long term though. Personally I'm a fan of EggBeater pedals. Easy to get into and out of, w/o ever having to adjust anything.

As for the spring, have someone LOOK at the trike and see how much the suspension 'sags' when you get onto the trike. Look at the available travel. If you have say 4" of travel available, I'd set it for sagging just 1" once I'd sat down on it. That leaves you 3" of down travel for hitting holes, but gives you 1" of cushion for smaller stuff before the spring would touch it's travel limit under load. If you want a bit softer ride, adjust it for 2" of SAG once you're on the trike.

Pucker Factor 11 go away! :laugh9:

You will be glad you got the clipless shoes. I wouldn't ride without them anymore.

I think you are right. I got heel straps and that is significantly better. I just ordered some shoes to try out. We'll see!

Never heard of carbon paste, but if it works... I was gonna suggest cutting a wide strip of cleaned & roughened old tire tube & inserting it between the boom and main tube. I had the boom turning problem when I rode Buddy's trike to try one for the first time. It was scary since it happened on a hill in the middle of the road. I have never had the problem on my Catrike 700, but the boom length has never been changed in the years I've had it.

As to feet slipping off pedals, many times that discussion has come up here. Three words: Clips. Mandatory. Frogs.

Just updating this for any future riders who are having a similar problem.

I've sense put about 120 miles on my trike and never had another twist on the boom. The carbon paste was the trick. This is the same paste bike shops use if the saddle sinks. They put it on the tube and it gives it more grip.

Also, for any new trike riders; if you ever plan to go faster than a walking pace, I highly highly encourage you to get clipless shoes. I would say it is necessary. All it takes is going down one hill and hitting one bump or uneven sidewalk for your feet to be bumped off your pedals.

I got some affordable shoes (<$90) from REI and got some affordable (<$25) SBD compatible clips from Amazon. After getting used to them, it's a no brainer.
