I played a bit of R-ball in the past, I always liked it better than tennis because the ball never got far away.

Got a few miles in tonight. Blustery in the low 40's and overcast but the wind died around dusk so I went out and did some hill repeats. Almost 20 miles and my legs were pretty dead when I finished. More rain/maybe snow tomorrow.

Re: My Most Recent Ride - 2010

3 inches of snow on the ground last night but most of it gone by this afternoon. Got out on the Weisel for 25 hard miles with lots of steep little hills. I have revised the grips on the Weisel now that I have replaced the grip shifters with barcons. I also narrowed the width of the grips making it just a little bit more aerodynamic. I will try and post pictures tomorrow.

Re: My Most Recent Ride - 2010

rained this morning but a cold front moved in and pushed the rain out. I loaded the Dragon in the Element before going to a meeting hoping we would finish before it got too dark and cold. Well barely, it was about 40 degrees when I got on the bike at about 6:15 and the SUN was just about done for the day.

With is being so cold I decided to keep it short and push it hard so I ended up with just under 20 miles in just over 1 hour with an elevation gain of around 600 feet. Traffic was light but I did have one SUV that just wouldn't pass, I finally pulled off so they would go.

Hang in there people spring is on the way :yes9:

Today our high in Knoxville is supposed to be 29 degrees. NORMAL high temperature is 59 degrees.

Jeeezzz. I would like to think positive Ward, but this stinks!!

The good news is I should pick up my new V Rex today. Will take pictures of it even if I can't ride it today. (I don't ride unless it is at LEAST 40 degrees which explains why I have not been riding this year. But I am getting my money's worth out of the new treadmill I just bought. And I am spending lots of time on my wife's recumbent exercise bike!)

Come on Spring :help: me out!!!!

Re: My Most Recent Ride - 2010

Jon, I have trouble riding below freezing because I am developing Raynauds Syndrome in my feet (a cold related lack of circulation in the toes) Thats why I have limited the duration of my last couple of rides, and even so I have to ride home with my shoes off and the heater blowing full strength of my feet. Worth it though, I might try and get out for just a few minutes tonight

Ward, are you saying the nerves in your feet are dying??? Sometimes when I ride for long periods of time, regardless of weather my toes will tingle and get a little numb. I will usually stop and walk around for a whle until they even out again.

Re: My Most Recent Ride - 2010

Not really sure yet. I was telling myself for a long time that it couldn't be Raynaud's because thats only in the hands...but I was wrong. The numbness tingling I believe is something different. My toes after 30 or 40 minutes of a cold ride just hurt/numb and white with lack of circulation. For some reason my body is shutting off circulation down there.

There is whole long list of possible causes. Thyroid disease, hypertension medications, rheumatoid arthritis etc. Basically you just keep your toes and fingers as warm as possible, so I think I am going to try and find some heated socks.

I hope it warms up for ya'll. Weatherman says 50 tomorrow here and I don't have to work so maybe a nice long ride.

Re: My Most Recent Ride - 2010

    Ward,

That is a common problem with low racers because your feet are so high up compared to your body. When I rode my trike, I had toe numbness sometimes also. But with my V Rex, I sit up much higher and have never had the problem. In fact, that is one of the advantages Easy Racer touts about their Tour Easy. Maybe it is time for you to get an "old man" bent! :eek9:

Ward, it is high time you get a fairing on that bike! It is amazing how much that helps the feet. Yes, being an old polio guy I have that same problem.

When I put the fairing on I lose only about 1/2 mph. Yes, that is correct, I lose just a little bit of speed.

You might also try the little heaters: Grabbers Toe warmers. They are much, much better than the heated socks. I have tried two different heater socks and did not like either of them.

What kind of trash talk is this?!!?:hot: You all listen here:listen: No one here is "OLD". Mature maybe, but not old. When I hear the words "old" I think of someone elderly and decrepit in a nursing home. As long as you are out doing something and getting around don't say you are old. Surely you guys aren't going to give in this early??? This is nonsense:gripe: ...I am sure that as soon as the weather breaks you guys will be out pounding the pavement. So get that chin up guys!:gripe: Hang tight and when the time comes...RIDE STRONG!:cool9:

Easy Keila! I'm hanging somewhat tight. I keep hoping for an early spring but we keep getting more of this white stuff almost daily. But at least it is warming up. It is 34 today! Hooray! Icicle season has begun.

Too keep in shape, we're doing some planning for RAAM! The time is getting closer!

On the down side, I had a little accident last week and the back has been terrible. I finally got in a half hour on the trainer today though so it is getting better.

I used to love snow till i got stranded in east Tn. Now i know why they hate it around here. We never get enough and it does not stay on the ground long enough to enjoy it. We get just enugh to make everything a muddy mess.
Man i hate that red clay! :jiggy9:

The fairing is actually a great idea. I hadn't even thought about that Dennis, cool. So, do I put it on the Weisel...hmm might even make me faster on that and then I just save the Dragon for slaying :yes9:

Re: My Most Recent Ride - 2010

Well it got pretty warm yesterday and I was off work so I headed out and got on the road about 2:30. Ran into Greg on his GRR and we rode a nice easy 16 miles. Just as we got back in Ramon and Cliff were unloaded their bikes so I took a break for a minute and road a fast 20 miles with them.

The legs were starting to feel a little tired as we arrived back at the vehicles. But another riding pal of mine Cary was suiting up for a long night ride. Sooo, I checked the batteries for the lights, put on some sock liners and those little heaters in the shoes and off we went.

Grand total of 63 miles with a ride time of 3 hours 54 minutes and total time of almost exactly 5 hours. 38 degrees when we finished and the feet were getting pretty cold, but better.
