Riding some everyday. The weather is warm and the showers
come and go. It was almost 60 today and I got 2 hours in and
had time for several more hours before the rain started.

60, not bad. It was 16 here in Tulsa today. Tad bit on the chilly side.

No one is going to come close to Buddy's record now. I love that one of our most mature members is riding circles around the rest of us.

    Go Buddy!!!

I rode 16 miles yesterday. Weather was warm. Sometimes the SUN was out, next minute it was cloudy and looking like it is going to rain on me.

I haven't ridden in a week so it felt good. I could tell I am not in as good of shape as the summer because my breathing was heavier going up some of my hills on the ride. But still had a wonderful time!!!

I would be riding more, but we are having a lot of rain this winter. I can't remember ever having this many rainy days in winter before! But we still are in a rain deficit for the year, so I am not complaining.

Well what the heck. I rode 45 minutes on the Blackburn Trackstand Ultra... After that, I went out and pushed another 3.5" of snow. Then we have another 6-10" forecast.

No, I won't be on the roads for a while. Right now it is difficult on the road with just the atv (Careful now with that one! We live on a dead end road and I plow the other two residents driveways). Our road is so icy that ever when I slow the atv down, I go skidding. Even more difficult walking on that stuff. Nasty.

Could not live like that. <g> Shades of the "Snow Shoveler".
I'm afraid I would fall down and hurt my purdy self, or break
something off I may need later. Can deal with cold, but slick
is not good for an old man. I'm not riding in this 55 o rain.
Don't want to get my bicycle wet but WD 40 would get the
water off. Poor excuse. I'm walking it today....in the rain.

Hey Buddy, it isn't all that bad. To be honest, we've always looked forward to the snow. You get accustomed to it. Yes, it is work and does cause some problems, but mostly for the stupid... Like folks who get into the habit of racing to the corner then jamming on their brakes. That doesn't work with snow or ice on the road. Some folks even park their vehicles in the strangest places!

Now the cold is something else. It never seems so bad when there is a good amount of snow, but when you get those below zero times with no snow, it just don't seem right.

And beside that Buddy, I can also pick up a few extra dollars by pushing snow around.

    Good luck to you.

Dennis, so you're the snow plow operator. LOL. I would have to
have a trike with ice studded tires. Probabaly a delts to make
it easy to get on and off. I thought I was getting old until my
vegan uncle died on the 15th. He was 100 years old. He was
30 when I was born in 1939. He never got the diabetes or got
belly obese like me. Oh well, I'll keep riding. I never saw him
exercise or ride a bike. He graduted from the University of TN
and was a Pet Milk dairy inspector. Maybe that's the reason he
    was vegan.

Buddy, my Grandfather lived to be 101. His motto was you can do anything in moderation. An drink once in a while, maybe even a cigar. His breakfast was 1 egg, 1 slice of toast, and some prune juice. Dinner was a bowl of cereal. Lunch was his big meal, many times we would go to Krystal and he would have one, a few of my fries and a chocolate shake.

He also used to say the day you retire is the day you die. He worked reposessing cars until he was 92. He only quit then because he he a spell with his heart beating fast and he didn't want to hurt someone else while driving a car.

I believe some people just have better genes than others.

    That's me Buddy!

Thought you might be interested. Since we got up this morning it has been snowing anywhere from 1-2" per hour. And to think, I still have to go out and push that stuff around! That will exercise the arms, but the indoor trainer will have to get a workout this afternoon for the legs.

Family genes load the gun. Poor eating habbits and
inactivity pull the trigger. I check the obits often to
see if my name is in there. Dodged the bullet so far.
Not at all rare to see young folks in their 40's. SAD
is killing Americans, so please never make light of it.

Oh, what is SAD? Does anyone know?

BTW, I did ride today. Did over an hour of interval
training. I like it, much better than hammering all day.
Check it out, you may like it too.

    Re: My Most Recent Ride

My Dad who lived to be 81 live liife to excess. Smoked more than anyone I have ever seen since. He and my mom bought a carton of cigarettes a day until he quit when he was 41. He ate way too much also and of course all the right stuff.

The thing is even though he lived a long life the last 16 years he was a cardiac cripple. AFter multiple hear attacks and strokes he wasn't able to do much of anything.

He is my motivator, my grandfather is my example.

I walked two miles yesterday, plan on pushing towards three miles this week.

    Ward,

You bring up a good point. There is a difference between the total number of years a person lives and the number of disability free years a person lives. I would much rather run strong right up to the end then just keel over than live an additional 10 years but unable to do anything that makes living worth while.

As the old saying goes .... while nobody can guarantee that exercise and a healthy diet will add years to your life, they will certainly add life to your years ...

    Re: My Most Recent Ride

Most on the SAD (Standard American Diet) rationalize to stay on
it. I have family and friends taking cholesterol medicine in order
to continue to pump cholesterol in their arteries every day and
some have stroked anyway. I'd rather stroke and die than become
a burden. But it doesn't happen that way.

This is the rideing thread. AD, can we move this in order to continue?

    Re: My Most Recent Ride

The day was beautiful and cloudy, cool and dry. Took the
P-38-T with fenders and mud grips over to East Greene County.
To be specific, Davey Crocket Birthplace State Park. Parked the
white Caravan and removed the bike and headed out in the
direcrtion of the mountains. Found a road to nowhere, where
it said dead end so took that one to the Nolichuckey river.
Made it to the river and found an old metal bridge that had
been abandoned by the road department many a year ago.
By this time I was in Washington County and I found another
long dead end road. They pave these dead end roads in
Washington County, not so in Greene County. Well anyway,
had a wonderful day and rode some serious hills that lended
themselves well to interval training. Miles mean nothing in this
part of the world. Some of the hills were well over 7%. Put
in 10 fun miles that would easily equal 20 in the flats. I'll
be back to this fun place soon.
