Gene, we're probably both beyond help, but I plan on enjoying myself anyway.

Calboy, It rained here over a month every day. So impatiently I rode 10 miles right off, I thought all my stairstepping and eliptical training had me in good enough shape. Within a week I jumped to 30 miles at one ride, my mile marker from last fall. Having knee swelling, knee cap pain and iliac band makes the lower bone get bursitis. I tried changing postures, got smaller cranks and had more flareups so decided to not use my legs for 3 to 6 months as it even affects my walking. Am doing lots of upper body stuff at home like I should have done in the first place. I should have been cross training instead of being lazy. I'm trying to get a grant for a hand crank bike.

What kind of "sickness"? Could take one of my ultracet. You'll forget you're sick. In fact you'll forget your name and it won't even be 60's related. Hehe!

Sometimes when ur in that much pain nothing helps. Triking kept most of my pain away. Not sure what will happen while I go through this adjustment. So are u really sick or just "sick in the head"? You sound like a real cut up of a personality in a fun way. Hope ur alright.

    Re: My Most Recent Ride

the other evening as I was preparing to ride I noticed the heavy clouds to the south where I usually ride. I had ridden the evening before so my plan was to take it easy anyway so I packed my jacket and away I went.

The river was a smoky gray and the wind was whipping up some pretty good waves. It as a headwind but I didn't mind as I wasn't really going anywhere. I ran into a fella I see all the time but had never really talked to. I had not seen him out as much so I wondered what was the deal.

His name is Carter and he has had some medical problems. Even fell and hit his head a few times. (he smelled a bit like the outside of a bar on sunday morning). He has been riding his bike more and longer distances in the hope that it will lower his BP and get him in better shape. I hope it diverts him from his alcohol habit as well.

Moving on, I passed a couple of fella that I used to ride MTB with. "The Tour of France must be on since ya'll are road riding" I yelled. They laughed as we passed. I need to get out to the trail and see them soon. Its been about 9 month now since I rode with them.

There wern't many others on the Riverwalk probably due to the worsening sky. For me, the cool temperture was really nice so I just strolled along. It did make climbing one long hill pretty tough. I usually stay at about 14-15 but with the headwind it had me down around 10 mph.

The rain never materialized and i enjoyed the tailwind on the way home. It had slacked off so I didn't get to fly along with it as you do sometimes. Stayed cool and overcast though so that was nice. Ended up with 28 miles of completly relaxing riding.

Last night was another story. My plan was a metric in 3 hours 30 inutes. I hit it hard right out of the gate keeping my HR between 140 and 150. There was a fella right behind me when I started out and as I was warming up he kept pretty close. After about 4 miles the legs were beginning to feel good and I started putting the hammer down and he dropped off the back pretty quickly.

The ride was going well with my Adv staying around 18 which would have me back right about the time I was looking at. Out on ft Benning where I do most of my riding, I came quickly upon a boar and we scared the crap out of each other. what I had thought was a big shadow under a tree jumped and grunted just as I pulled beside it. I think I gave a pretty good NIles Crane impression . Later I saw a buck with a nice big rack. I wasn't able to count the points.

At about mile 50 my speed and my HR began to slow. I didn't feel like I was bonking, I just couldn't get my HR back above 120. Maybe dehydration as I didn't pee the entire ride. I still finished within my deadline but just barely
    62 miles, 3 hours 28 minutes.

I have been carrying mandarin oranges with me and a trail mix that has little chocolate chunks in it:munch:. This combination seems to be working well as far as my stomach goes. I'm sure that will change soon enough.

    long and convoluted sorry

    Ward

Ward, have you, or anyone else, ever tried the granola mix (Mountain Trail Mix) they sell at Sam's Club? Man, I could come addicted to that stuff. It has several different nuts and the most delicious raisins. For the chocolate lovers there are even some M & M's mixed in.

I've also taken to Power Bars (chocolate, of course) while riding.

    Dennis,

the mix from Sam's is too salty for me. I have been eating stuff from target with cranberries and little hunks of white chocolate.

Gene, you crack me. I guess I didn't bore u 2 much. Next time I'll try putting it to music

The chocolate chunks woke me up! How big a chunks ARE they? And the mandarine oranges! I like orange and chocolate flavors together. I used to dip orange slices in cocoa powder when dieting but real chocolate better. Chocolate covered candied ginger is to die for, too. It bites back. I'm fasting as I write this. Bummer. Glad ur better Calboy. When we feel fluish in summer it's probably a touch of West Nile down here.

Those chocolate drops are pretty small but boy are they good. They mix well with the cranberries and the orange slices. the orange slices are really great right now with the temperature in the 90's most of the time.

Man, you all are making me hungry. All I got for my ride today was a crappy chewy leather piece of power bar.:(
