    Re: My Most Recent Ride

Ok I left Saturday 11/01 at 11:45 am and now it is Sunday 11/09 at 2056 hours; so i have riden 9 days this month..Today was one of the top two hardest days ever...Wind in my face for the first 50 miles then about the time i turned directions so did the wind..Don't know how many miles i rode today but all but the last five or less, involved headwinds of varying force..Oh yea i ended up with (i better go look) 383.7 miles so far this week..Or 9 days i should say.
I think i have 20 or so more to get back to my new temporary basecamp....

Oh yea Hey Dave:I had a flat too! I think i may have put my Presta to Schrader adaptor on improperly,so i had to put a little air in my tire twice.I had forgotten about the adaptor so when i saw a bike shop i purchased and replaced the tube.Tommorrow i'll try to check out the old tube to be sure...

Curtiss we will have to ride in a few days.I found some old friends i haven't seen in about 20 or 30 years and they axed me to come out to March Airforce Base for some kind of emergency preparedness training excersise they bare involved in.I will get back to you when i head back your direction to go to the V.A. in Loma Linda.........:jiggy9:

I actually got my rear out the door today!

It was a good test for the new clothes. When I started out, it looked like it was clear, but within 2 miles it started a light misting rain. I'm so proud of myself. 40 degrees, misting rain and no rain suit... and I went on! I figured it would be the best test of whether my new winter cycle clothes could keep away the 3 hour shivers.

The rain picked up every now and again. The front derailleur worked fine and doggie was doing a pretty good clip for the first few miles.

I only did about 13.5 miles. A short loop past some fields and horse pastures, the old watermill, the old Uppsala church and back home. The last two miles my calves and thighs started cramping, which shows how much condition I lost since 13 miles didn't even feel like exercise 2 months ago. Loke is flat and muddy from the belly down. The picture is how a husky should look after a good run along side a trike! A good day! :D

Oh! And no chills! Now I have to jump in the shower and do some quick clean up before my mother-in-law comes over for the weekly visit to help me with my Swedish. I'm blessed with the sweetest in-laws anyone could ask for. :smile9:

Good cloths are worth their weight in gold!!! I learned that from my Boy Scout, Peace Corps and Assistant Scout Master years. It can make all the difference of feeling good or feeling blue in incremental weather.

Here in the Smokies, hypothermia is a big problem. In summer people go hiking in cotton shirts and shorts into the mountains. Along comes one of our "pop up from nowhere" showers and gets them wet. Then the temperature drops 20 degrees and it gets windy. There are articles every year of Park Rangers having to rescue people who go hiking unprepared. That is why I ALWAYS carry my rain jacket when hiking or biking. I don't care how hot or sunny it is. You just never know!

It is possible to get hypothermia even in 65 deg.F weather if you get soaked and conditions are right (or wrong). Cotton is the worst thing to have on even in dry cool weather.

Took the inherited van with the P-38 trail to Kingsport's
Warrior Path State Park. Rode the bike for a couple of hours
in the traffic free worries of the park. I hate traffic. Too
many drivers uneducated to bikes and bike laws.

Any way, dressed up in all this fancy warm wicking wear
as prescribed by Dr Dave. Works good at 49. My cute
little cheeks, on my face, got pink. I'll get a shield like
my dentist wears and mount it to the winter helmet.
The winter helment is a cheap Wal-Mart model that
doesn't have enough holes for summer. Feet stayed
warm. Everything stayed warm. Conclusion, 49 is not
bad at all. I'll dress for 39 this week-end, it looks like.

I despise cold weather. Winter is just an obstacle to climb over in order to get to Spring. Glad to see the forecast through Tuesday is mid- to upper 70s and clear to p/c... in Ft. Lauderdale. I may follow the geese and move south for the winter.

Keila and I went to Kinzel Springs and back. I was riding Edge 0001 and had a thoroughly good time. The fall colors were beautiful and the memory of that ride has made me happy all week. Very comfortable bike. You should get one.....:biggrin9:

    Rain, rain, rain...

Well, at least I got a short ride in. 5 mile river loop. It was supposed to be just a short run for the dog and then I was going to go for a 20 mile ride solo. Halfway through the 5 mile loop, it started to rain. 36 degrees and no rain resistant suit I thought just might be pushing the thermal threshold of my new clothes.

But, 36 degrees wind and 20 minutes of a slight drizzle and no chills. Loving these new clothes!

I'm glad you two fine people had a good ride. You deserve the best
after all your contributions to humanity.

Looking forward to seeing one of your fine new machines. Where
could one see a picture of that one you are riding, 001.

    Anyone ride today?

I started moving out the door as soon as I woke up. Of course, part of that is a 20 min walk with the dog so he can do his business before we start out.

3.5 mile trip with the dog. Then I went out for 13 miles solo where I could push myself a bit. Temp was around 45 F when I left and was about 50 F when I got home. Very warm for this time of the year.

And there was 20 whole minutes of sunshine in that ride too!

Still, felt really great to get out and push the pedals for a while. I would have liked to have gone farther/longer since this is the first day in over a week we haven't had any rain (so far), but gotta build my condition back up which I think is going along pretty well.

Snow is in the forecast tomorrow. :rolleyes9:

Ain't we humans a peculiar bunch. If the weather is cold we don't like it then it gets a little warm and we can't wait for the cooler weather. I know cuz here I am sitting in a camp chair looking at the stars wearing flip flops and a pair of boxer briefs and thinking I maybe should head back up north a couple hundred miles....We'd ***** if we was hung with a brand new rope...:jiggy9:

Still getting acclimated. Rode today for a couple hours.
The temperature was in the 40's. Wasn't bad at all. It
does take some getting use to. Made the temperature
in the house feel a lot warmer and had to shed the cloths
    quick.

Buddy;I saw you are not going to be useing your fairing. I have been planning to get one myself so I was curious to hear that; since winter is coming on...
Also curious about where/how you mount your head lights to prevent the glare from the fairing? :jiggy9:

    Re: My Most Recent Ride

The fairing is a pain. My toes tap it in turns and I hate that.
I'll be using a face shield just as soon as I can rig or locate one.
My face gets cold. I would duck down below the fairing on a
fast down hill. I have a skull cap that comes down over the ears
that goes under the helmet and a shower cap that goes over
the helmet to cover the holes.

I have a supply of hand and feet warmers from Wal-Mart. They
    work well.

The light: I took a strip of velcro and stuck it to the front of
the helmet, and then put a strip of velcro on a flash-light and
stick it to the helmet as needed.

Nashbar has a selection of lights and they have a 70% off sale
    going.

Mike let me use his head lights a few years back when we were
riding at Fall Creek Falls one January. They were real nice. The
battery pack went in the bike bag and the cord ran up to the
lights that mounted on the helmet. Very nice and bright.
