    Re: My Most Recent Ride

Yesterday decided to do some intervals (I hate intervals Buddy). Went with the big ring/little cassette combo. Made it three times and I was sucking wind. Rode a little bit further out letting my HR return to normal and stopped for a nature break. While there three guys came by motoring along pretty well.

The greyhound brain took over and I gave chase. They had a pretty good headstart on me so when A car came by I drafted it at 25 mph for about 1/2 mile until I had them in my sights. :biggrin9: The heartrate is back up into the upper 150's as I fade off the bumper of my assistant. I try to maintain 23 and they begin to grow in my sights. They were only about 75 yards ahead of me when they turned onto the Riverwalk. The RW there has a nice short downhill then a series of curves followed by a long slow uphill. Sprinting down the hill I quickly hit 30 and was on them before they knew it. Staring in disbelief as I blew past them at 26 I gave a little wave and said HIYA as that was all I could manage. The HR was in the 170's and I was gasping.

Because of the curves I lost sight of them quickly and brought my speed down to 23 again. I wanted to get far enough ahead that they couldn't catch me. I must have for they didn't.

Who needs intervals when there are so many Rabbits out there :yes9:

yup, fun is what I was having and lots of it. The Sea Dragon is absolutely amazing. Its like having your back planted against a wall its so solidly built. The best is that even with the Rotor cranks it only weighs right at 20 LBS.

HB, I am so pulling for you girl. But you got to keep moving as much as you can even if its just a short walk

    good luck

    Re: My Most Recent Ride

Well, I had the old MUGA test once again and get this. BEFORE I started the chemo my heart muscle eject rate(force of blood being pumped)was at 64% at rest. So that was good, when I asked this time it was, get this 70%! I gained a 6% strength increase. That was unusual, but here is the biggie...I am OFF chemo!!! Whoo hoo!:woohoo: That being said, I think el doctoro said it is safe to say that my thyroid may be acting up, so some meds may be in my future. Meds that will increase my metabolism...resulting in additional energy and perhaps some potential WEIGHT LOSS!!! Right now I am joyful.:yay:

HB just in time for spring thaw :smile9:

Congratulations, I hope food starts tasting better soon also. That was the worst thing to me about chemo.

    Re: My Most Recent Ride

Well, I got the call from my primary Dr. and all is well, blood work looked "Fantastic" his nurse said. Also apprently the chemo saps ALL your energy and that is why a person basically can't do jack diddly for months on end. They say now that I am off it it may take amonth or so maybe less considering I only took chemo once every three months. I should be getting back to my old self again. So whoo hooo! Yeah, food is beginning to have some taste again and I am getting an appetite back, but since I haven't eat a lot, the amount I eat is less so that is a good habit to have. So this weekend, if the SUN is good...I'll think I'll get out my bike try to give it a spin. Well see, and everyone keep your fingers crossed.:D

    Re: My Most Recent Ride

Weather this morning started out cold and overcast with a pretty good wind. Just didn't want to drag myself out in it. This year I havn't been riding in the cold like I was last year. Can't get motivated

However, By 3pm it had cleared up, wind was down in the single digits with a temp around 58.

So off I went down the Riverwalk. Legs felt real good so I pushed and had an adverage of 19.4 after the first 6 miles. I was huffing a good bit as the lungs don't seem to be responding as fast as the legs so I backed it down a bit for the next few miles. I saw lots of other riders mostly on the return leg of their rides.

But wait, is that a green jacket about 1/4 mile ahead. Suddenly I had a purpose. The Sea Dragon sped up into the low 20's and I watched as my prey grew larger and larger. There were two of them and I caught them pretty quickly. I had to wait a minute to pass due to oncoming traffic then I punched it up to 24 and with "have a great day" I smoked around them. The lead rider was out of his saddle in a second. Hands down in the drops, focused on my back wheel.....which he saw fading quickly away. I lost sight of him in some S curves but about a mile or so later I could see him still working to catch me. He had dropped the other rider and was really giving it everything.

Four miles later having lost sight of him again, I arrived at my car. While I was loading up he arrived and pulled up to the car next to mine. "Is that thing fast?" I couldn't believe he asked that. "I think so", he just nodded his head. He asked me alot of other questions and I could see the thoughtful look on his face.

Another convert. Maybe not for a while, but one day he will make the jump.

    26.89 miles/1 hour 21 minutes/ 19.1 mph
    its good to be back
