    3000 miles??? 1500 miles???

I now have 475 miles ridden in 2008. I hope to do 25 miles one day this week before the 1st.

You guys put me to shame. I think, though, of what Art Hagood told me once. "Don't ride to set records. Just ride for the joy of it. Enjoy the scenery."

    Happy New Year, friends.

    You'll get there, Larry. :)

My first year with my trike, I _maybe_ did 400 miles. '07, I think I did between 700 and 800. This year was 1200 or so and next year, I'm hoping to break 2000 miles. That might be a bit too large a jump from this year and next, but we'll see.

I haven't been cycling between the brutal tires and tender knees and the fact we've gotten proper Swedish weather temps. The last week has been gorgeous. SUN and clear skies every day and highs around 25. We've gotten quite a lot of hoarfrost that I've taken to calling false snow. Thick ice crystals making cars, trees, and the ground look all fuzzy and white. Some of the crystals I've seen growing on the grass have been almost an inch long. Quite pretty the way they glitter in the sun light. It keeps getting thick and thicker so that it looks like we've gotten a bit of snow until you take a closer look and see it's ice crystals.

Ooh! And I'm so excited! We had more than 6 hours of day light today! The days are getting longer. :biggrin9:

I agree. I ride for the fun of it too not the miles. (Rode today in fact. First time in a week!) I just have a bicycle computer that keeps track of the miles for me so I like to look every once in a while to see how much fun I have been having. The bigger the number means the more fun I am having that year. :)

Riding most every day. Went to my favorite park yesterday
and recorded intervals on the Garmin Edge 305. The Park is
excellent for this activity. The weather was good at 44o's.
Two layers and a Members Only jacket. No sweat and not
cold. Garmin is taking over Motion Based and promise to have
it up and running mid month. We'll see.

I've used it in the past to record my rides and share
the data online. It was free standing, but Garmin is
taking it over. AD put me onto it some years ago
when he demonstrated his 305. Take a look.

Here is one of my rides in November 2007. Click on
"Chart Details" bottome right and the chart shows
heart rate, speed and elevation. Not a bad 108
beats per minute average for a 15 mile hill
    country ride.

Oooh, yeah. I really like my Garmin and Motionbased combination. Comes in handy if I stop it to drink some water, let the dog catch his breath and then forget to turn it back on for a couple miles. Motionbased wll figure out at least the straight line distance between the off point and the back on point. The Garmin Trainer just ignores it.

I really hope Garmin doesn't muck it up when they take it over. :rolleyes9:

Riding every day that's not rainy. One hour of intervals yesterday.
Recorded it on the 305. Calling Garmin today to see what gives.

Well here I was going to brag and ask why all you sissies out there were not riding today and when I got to this thread, Buddy already put me in my place!!!

Anyway, only rode 15 miles today. I haven't ridden since before 12/20. My legs crapped up and my stamina (what little I ever had of it) was a lot less. The old engine just didn't want to turn over as fast as it used to.

It was beautiful out but cold. Took this picture of an icicle falls that was on the ride of the road during my ride today.

Getting an hour every day. Cool at 35 degrees yesterday. Got
14 miles and about 2 hours. The "WOW" helmet from eBay is
very warm. It has a full face shield that pushes up easily when
working hard. It was $9. plus shipping. Today was warmer at
    41. Tomorrow should be nice and in the 40's. We'll see.

    Re: My Most Recent Ride

Our temps seem to be in common now, Buddy. I intented to ride yesterday with a nice balmy 41 degrees, but got sucked into working on my 3D digital art. 10 am said, "I'll go out the door at noon." When I looked up again it was already 3:30 and starting to get dark.

The hazard of a new computer I guess. It handles my art software so much better that I've gone into a frenzy with it. :p

Needless to say, the death of my old computer and the purchase of a new one bit into my plans for getting a trainer. Now have to watch the budget more closely for a few months. :o_O9:

    Re: My Most Recent Ride

Yesterday it was about 48 degrees when I started down the Riverwalk. Only my second ride I didn't want to overdo it so I tried to keep the speed down. The Carbent isn't faster than the Aero on the flats but I can really feel a difference on hills.

Clear and sunny with a steady wind 10-15 mph I managed to ride 14.2 miles with an adv speed of 14.4. Just to compare from last July I would ride the 16 miles of the Riverwalk and my speed would vary from 18.5 to 21 mph. I am not complaining, it just gives me a goal.

Cold front moving down from your area Dennis, susposed to have low's in the teen's this weekend with high's in the upper 20's, low 30's. Brrr I don't know
how ya'll put up with it.

    Re: My Most Recent Ride

I did my first ride for 2009 yesterday, a whole 8.3 miles. Rode to a dental appointment. Figured I should do something to make going to the dentist more enjoyable. When I left the house, I thought it was cold being in the high 50s, low 60s. When I rode home it was in the 70s. I realize I don’t know what cold is when I hear the temps that the rest of you are riding in.
