That is EXACTLY why they avoid you. We (our bike company) sells trianglular shaped reflecting flags that you mount to you bike and they stick out sideways. Cars will avoid you like the plague...they don't want any scratches on their precious vehicle, Even though the flags mounting is plastic. it is all subconcious...:jiggy9:

You'd be surprised what even plastic will do to a car at speed. I was once forced into a construction lane by a school bus. A traffic cone that was taller than my drivers side mirror was in the way. The mirror and all its internal mechanisms exploded like a bomb went off inside. Granted, cones are heavier than flags, but who wants to test the difference?

Yeah, about $300 hurt. And with a $250 comp deductible, really ouch! Called the school system bus director. Since I didn't get the bus's tag or system number he couldn't verify or help me.

I've been getting pretty ticked at the bus driver that runs by our house. Twice I have noticed that she stops to pick up Zach and she did NOT turn on any caution or stop lights. That is dangersous because even though not that many people live on our loop the few that do drive like they're headed to a fire.

The flag base was bolted to the main tube ... then angle up, back, and left to where it cable-tied to the outside edge of the top cross-support of my seat ... and continued left and back from there. I'll post a foto on my blogsite ... click on link below ...

Sorry i haven't been online in awhile..Would have loved to ride with you..I was stopping at a friends place in Bivins,Tx. but got there about the time "IKE" was due to come through so I actually did go as far as Nacodches so I could get a look at an actual hurricane....Was the most awsome show of nature i have ever seen...Ended up spending a couple weeks helping different folks clean up and dig for momentos etc...I can say I love Texas now....Will be going back through that way when i get through here in California...
Just got here a few days ago so I thought I would say hi to all my RRI friends...Will probably be stuck here or Arizona a few months it looks like.
But I do intend to go back through Mississippi on the return trip...Want to ride the Natchez Trace from end to end.Maybe we can get together for a nice ride then..You can show me some of the great stuff in Ms. :jiggy9:

After the death of a bicycle rider, Tennessee now has a 3 foot passing law. A car needs to give you 3 feet when passing you. Now all we need to do is educate drivers.

    Nope ... no police comments.
I'm usually on the right-hand shoulder ... or far right edge of the roadway.

As soon as I can afford a pic phone will post mine. Mine the U.S. flag is on the right and the Ohio State Flag is on the left. Yesterday I tried to diomand a turn and well flipped it over and well the flag touched the ground I had put it on the right so it wouldn't touch the ground the next time I flipped. Well it did.

I had bluejeans, winter shoes, sweatshirt & jacket, ballcap & helmet, and lined leather gloves on when out riding today. The wind was blowing, sometimes shoving me around ... due to headwind, I even had to pedal DOWN a steep downslope ... just to keep moving forward. Supposed to freeze tonight ... not sure if I'm going riding tomorrow or not.

keep the rubber down and the rest of it off the ground!:jiggy9:

I rode Monday. Temp was 42. I had my long riding pants on, long sleeved riding shirt, a wind breaker over that, glove liners in my riding gloves, my regular biking socks under a pair of thick wool socks. I was cool when I started but warmed up in 10 minutes and was fine for the rest of the 1 ride. Beautiful sunny day, just cold and windy. I'll ride down until it hits 39 then I quite. Doesn't stay that cold that long in Tennessee. :) When it really gets cold I add thermal shirt and pants under my riding gear and change out the wind breaker with a light weight fleece jacket.
