How do YOU typically make a hand signal in traffic, to turn RIGHT?

  1. Left arm is extended and bent 90 degrees at elbow, so hand points (upward) towards the sky.

    And sometimes he doesn't need to signal cuz he and Buddy are the only ones with the guts to ride then and there.

    Zachies are awesome!

    Wow! I am surprised at all the debate about this! Awesome! The fact remains that no matter where you live, a right turn is indicated by turning your left arm up as indicated. This goes back to when cars had no turn signals and drivers could only signal out the window on the left of the car.
    Now that thats solved, I have been using these in the sub zero dark commutes of late and they are very bright and effective. They really need to make a winter glove version! I wear other gloves under them and my hands are a bit cold!

    I called it!

    Check out KICKSTARTER.com.
    These incredible turn signal gloves are now on Amazon and are endorsed by the first African American to win Olympic gold as a cyclist. I bought one of the first pairs sold in the U.S. and ride with them almost every day! They are one of the most innovative cycling safety gear products ever made! Especially on a recumbent trike!! I have spoken to Zach about this and he agrees!! My local bike shop (It's on the top 100 bike shops in the USA list) is all over it and is working on carrying them! They work!!

    This is one POLL that has surprised me. I've never seen someone signal with their "Right arm extended straight out, pointing to your right." :eek9: I guess I just live too-far back in the sticks, eh? :wink:

    I always use my right arm for a right turn since the invention of mechanical turn signals motorist have forgot what a left arm bent at the elbow with the hand point up means.

    They used to teach that in drivers training, but not they don't have drivers training, at least in KY. Just another drivers license vending machine state. Sorry I digress.

    Here is KYs statute on hand signals. KRS 189.380
    (6) Hand signals shall be executed in the following manner when operating a vehicle that is not a motor vehicle:
    (a) The hand and arm shall be extended horizontally from the left side of the vehicle to indicate a left turn;
    (b) The left arm shall be extended horizontally with the hand and arm extended upward from the elbow or the right arm and hand shall be extended horizontally to indicate a right turn;
    (c) Either arm shall be extended horizontally with the hand and arm extended downward from the elbow to indicate a stop or decrease in speed.

    Yeah, I got my license at 14 on a motorcycle many years ago and I read that little drivers book through & through.:read: Our test was simple, but they were quite strick on yielding, stopping and hand-signaling.

    Excellent point though, if younger drivers aren't aware of the 'old' style right-hand signal what would they think?…

    What's that guy pointing at up in the sky for, ahead of us?…as they up look upwards for a plane. :rolleyes9:
