OK guys, let me set you straight. NO alcohol on rides. Dulls the mind and reflexes, wrecks will be inevitable. Cool clear water the first ½ hour or V8 juices are the best. After that you will need V8 or another type of drink high in potassium and sodium because if you sweat you lose it very quickly. If you have no other choice the gatorade drinks. The 30+ grams of sugars will get you by. However, eventually you will need to replenish with something more substantial ie a quick burst of V8 or food.

I was told about the V8 juice from guy at one of the MS tours. When I asked him why don't they have more of it instead of the "gatorades" he said gatorade endorses etc and gives TONS of the stuff for free, because it helps their advertising etc. They cannot get the main higher ups MS folks to go to v8 because it might not look as cool as a "sports" drink etc.

I am sorry this is long, but it really does work. Don't worry about carrying 6-packs....pour the stuff in your water bladder etc. or if you have water bottle racks, carry water in one slot and v8 in the other. Great stuff.

If you wreck and the V-8 spills on the road, it's gonna look real bad!

Back before I came to TN, I used to refuel with whole wheat bagels and "mummy balm" (extra-virgin olive oil and honey). At 120 calories per table spoon for olive oil (90 cals for honey) it packs a lot of energy in a small package, and antioxidants too. Hmmm, at the next event ride I might carry a small bottle...

And I hate soft, soggy bagels. I leave them out to dry a bit before I embalm and mummify them in plastic. :D

The cooler would be a good place to store extra-virgin. Heat and UV rays will zap some of the antioxidants (and slightly alter the flavor), but it should be good even on a moderate desert tour.

And go with the whole wheat. It will provide steady, "slow burn" energy and won't spike your blood sugar.

Well, Jon forgot that you have to put Worcestorshire sauce in with that tomato juice to really zip it up.....

Buddy, I was raised in that German area you guys rode through on the Katy Trail. Used to live in Marthasville and New Haven as well as just outside Hermann. Unfortunately I will have to disappoint you and confess that I have a genetic predisposition to good dark German beer. But I really can't drink any because I have an odd condition: I'm incredibly allergic to alcoholic drinks. If I so much as sip a Margarita I am deathly ill for about a day. But I can barely tolerate a (as in 1) beer. As I get older I find I can't hardly sip ANY thing having alcohol in it.
As to touring, Keila pretty much hit it when she said what our diet is. While on tours, we live on those cookies that Keila copied from Mary's recipe.

As to y'all using Propel and Ramen noodles: That is POISON. Literally! The Splenda in Propel is a sugar molecule that has a chlorine molecule attached to it. It WILL damage your liver and kidneys.

And Ramen noodles are loaded with MSG. This excitotoxin will always destroy part of your brain when ingested and causes neurological and digestive problems.

Well we want you to be healthy Little Jon. The best diet for a cancer serviver is Vegan. Reports are now coming in where breast cancer is
being reversed by a vegan lifestyle. The problem with flesh food is not
just the fat, but also all the chemicals used.

koolaid. It's one thing I never understood. I like fruit. I like a nice tall cold clean glass of water. One would think if you gave a child something that is supposed to taste like sweet fruit juice, he'd drink it, right? I was first offered koolaid at the age of 4. I took one sip, and spat it out. I hate koolaid. My wife drinks it, my kids like it - I just look at all of them and wonder why anyone would drink it.I do not understand.
