OK I will start. Rode today. It was 45 degrees when I left at lunch time. Sunny and breezy.

Rode out to Ijam park via the greenway and beyond. Beautiful day!!! Rode 15 miles in 1 .3 hours. Stopped lots for pictures and traffic lights going through downtown Knoxville on Gay Street.

I am attaching a picture of my ride a 1998 V-Rex. The other picture is of a civil war memorial at Old Grey Cemetery in Knoxville.

    Re: My Most Recent Ride

My rides tend to be shorter as I’m trying to work up my endurance.

Tuesday evening, in 90+ degree weather I rode about 8 ½ miles. Went around Puddingstone Lake in the San Dimas area of Southern California. This is an enjoyable ride in a hilly area. I think it’s good for training as there are a large number of various size and grade hills. An actual mileage for a single trip around the lake is about 9.3 miles. This is a ride that I’m trying to do at least once a week, it’s enjoyable, and has some nice views as you ride along.

Last Friday, I rode around the Santa Fe Dam Recreation Area in the Irwindale area of Southern California. The trail is smooth with mostly shallow inclines with only a couple of steep grades when actually going over the dam. The rest are all fairly shallow and enjoyable. I rode about 15 ½ miles in this area.

    Re: My Most Recent Ride

Most recent? Yesterday evening I rode the rail trail here. I went down the trail, and figured on circling back around the road since the trail was perilous with fallen nuts. My plan went south 200 yards up the road from the far end of the trail when my tire blew out. Seems one of the walnuts that I knicked got me a little harder than I thought, and tore the sidewall out of my tire. Being 4 miles from the truck, I stuck a dollar bill over the hole, put a new tube in and started pumping. My pump gave up at about 45 psi, which was just enough air in the tire to slowly, carefully, ride back up the trail, stopping and walking across the bridges so I didn't pinch flat it on the way back.

I'm not gunning for it, but I suspect if I'm not careful, I'll take the king of flats crown away soon.

You have a LOOOOOOOOOOOOOONG way to go before you beat King Dave. However, since he switched tires, he isn't having many flats lately in the "shrapnel" roads he rides. :bike: You may be in contention!!! :eek9:

OK, I rode today also. With weather like this, you can't help but NOT ride. It was 20 degrees warmer at 63 instead of 43 degrees. Sunny, slight breeze. Rode 16 miles on the west Knoxville bike trail in 1.3 hours. Great day to ride. I am planning to ride tomorrow also. So I will have ridden 4 out of 5 BEAUTIFUL Fall days here. This is PERFECT riding weather!!!!!

Didn't need the jacket, liner gloves or heavy socks today. Wow what a change in weather!!!!

    Anyone else riding?????

PS No flats either. Last time I had a flat was last year! :)

Okay Jon, I think I'll sit here and gnaw on my liver in envy at the weather you had today. Have a rain ice mix that even Loke doesn't want to go out into. I settled for the mind numbing tedium of swimming laps.

I seriously need some new winter gear. :p

11-5-08 Went riding today. In the low 70s, no humidity, clear skies and full autumn color next to the Smokies. It doesn't get better than this!!!

Here are some pictures of today's ride. On an usual note, I was pulled over by the Knoxville Police for speeding on my V Rex! (And Buddy you still think you can keep up with me???? :rolf2: )

Can anyone guess where I took the scenery pictures from???

Well, let me guess, could it be next to the Smokies?

Did the cop have his sireeene going, and blue lights.
Man that's exciting. Oh yeah, I can beat you like
a red headed stepchild. What you do with a policeman
is take off in the oppisite direction on your bicycle.
Just really high tail it. Then while he is getting that
hunk-o-junk turned around dart off down a side rode
then while he is not looking take off through the bushes
and double back. Do Like Barney Fife and grab a tree
branch and put it over your hemet. Then hunker down
and stay real still. He will get hungry in a few minutes
and go for food. While he is chowing down, take off like
a scalded dog and don't look back. Shoot, that gets 'em
ever time. Since he was riding his bicycle, you were
    sol. I hate that.

    Re: My Most Recent Ride

Man... Am I the only one riding a recumbent these days????

Went riding TWICE today. First time on my V Rex on the Knoxville Greenway. Came up to a guy I had never met riding a Vision Lightening. Stopped and talked to him. His name was John and he was from Michigan. His wife was doing CE for a local hospital and he brought his bent down and was riding. He also has ridden across the US on this bent totally self contained. WOW!!!! Out of my league.

Second time riding today was on the New Edge recumbent we are making here in East Tennessee. We will soon be letting everyone know about that when our first production models come are ready for sale later this month. This is a stable and comfortable bent at an reasonable price.

    Stay tuned.....

    Re: My Most Recent Ride

I'm not riding atm. Maybe this weekend, AFTER I get some good quality winter clothes. It's 28 F right now. Though Loke would love it, I think my face would freeze and break off. :o_O9:

I have gone and irritated my husband with finding a new accessory for my trike. A faring!

I remember when I first started looking into trikes and pricing them. He kept grumbling that for the cost of it, I could have a decent used car.

I pointed out the trike's insurance would be lower, no tank to fill, it would make me FAR happier, help me lose weight, and give me a sense of accomplishment that couldn't be match by any motorized vehicle. "Woohoo.. I kept my foot on a little pedal and went 50 miles" vs "Woohoo, I went 50 miles under my own strength, power, and stamina!"

I'm pretty sure in 2 years, I would have spent more in gas than the cost of a faring, so we're still ahead.

    Re: My Most Recent Ride

Way to go. Spend all the money. Have fun. This winter I'm
not running a fairing. I have for the past few years, but this
time I'm looking for a cheap motor cycle type helmet with a
full face sheild. Got the idea from Todd Palin racing snow
machines in Alaska. I will dress in layers, and stay plenty
warm that way. I've got some heavy boots with lambs wool.
My feet always get cold, but not this year. I'll wear those
boots. They are heavy, but I won't be racing Jon in them.
I still have a supply of the hand and feet warmers, they
may be too old, I don't know, but I can get some more
from Wall-Mart in the sporting section where I got the
hunters type wicking under-wear. Jon wears this kind of
underwear on the outside. I have to ride year round
because of the diabetes. That's another story and I won't
go there. And too, I've got a plan to beat Jon in a little
flat land metric century in the spring. Teach him to suck eggs.
He thinks because I'm 70 (1939-2009) he can ride a bicycle
faster, well we'll see. Looks are not going to save him on
this one. I expect him to find an excuse and not show up.

Gosh Buddy, are you challenging me????? I will be happy to show you what the backside of my V Rex looks likes miles ahead of you on the Clarksville ride. (That is after I adjust the tire pressure on your Lightening Phantom!!) :wink9:

Hi Gene, I just got a look at the note you sent. Sorry I'm late getting back to you. Last weekend would have been somewhat nice riding, providing you weren't in an area with rain. With our drought going on, I'm not going to complain about the rain, we need it badly!

If you're out in this area again, you can get hold of me via e-mail (myerscw*Hotmail.com), work has an electronic leash on me, so I get not only my work e-mail, but my personal e-mail sent to my hip.

I have a friend who lives in Pomona and we tend to ride around Puddingstone Lake and Bracket Airport when we have the opportunity. It's a nice ride, with some nice views. 1 lap is about 7 miles.
