Hard to believe the year is gone. I tried to get one last ride today, but the roads were too slick for the trike to get traction.

Don't feel bad Terii. I rode 1,800 miles this year compared to 2,200 last year. But I also read Tennessee had the second wettest year in history. (I believe 1875 beat us by 2 inches.) I am a fair weather rider so it really cut into my miles.

But there is always 2014!! New slate. New start. And I am cutting my work week from 40 hours to 32 hours so I should have more time to ride! :)

    First Posted Ride of 2014

Let me be the first to post of a ride in 2014. Spent New Years Eve night with family in Knoxville. Got them all to bed around 3am. Woke up at 8am & couldn't go back to sleep. Couched around until noon while temperatures went from 22 to 40 deg.F. Afternoon was nice; clear; calm; almost 50 deg.F. Did UT to both east and west ends of the main greenways on the Rocket (still trying to get replacement seat for the Corsa). Several cycles and runners. Only 20 miles, but gotta start somewhere. Understand there were several riding River Road to Townsend today, also.

    2013 Bike Journal Club Stats

OK for all you number nerds (like myself) here are some interesting 2013 statistics about our group and Bike Journal.

We have mentioned on this board, a great way to keep track of your mileage is using Bike Journal. (Click blue word to go to site.) If you like that and want to become part of our club, then type in "Recumbent Riders International" as your club. Then you can see how you are doing compared to other club members. It is fun and motivating!!!

I pulled the 2013 club stats. I am attaching to this thread.

Our little club recorded 20,457 miles last year! WOW!!!! Of the 708 clubs that use Bike Journal RRI was #81!!!! We averaged 1,364 per member. We are a powerful little group!!!

Our fellow group, Bent Rider Online is #5 with 291,031 miles averaging 2,531 per rider.

For all clubs recording on Bike Journal, Tennessee was #5 averaging 1,062 miles per member. (This is all Tennessee members not just us.) Texas was #1 at 3,442 miles per member.

Keep up the good peddling in 2014. Can't wait to see how well we do. Already have folks recording miles this year. (More than I have done so far!!!)

For a little bragging I am a member (I started it but have pulled back now) of the Australian Cycling Forums club which came in number 3 in 2013 * 4,093 kilometres per member.

One thing that frustrates me with Bike Journal is you can only count your rides towards one club unlike Strava which is a multi-club environment, otherwise would be members of the RRI club too.

Oh I have done two rides so far in 2014:

First one was on New Years day after about four or five hours sleep ... it hurt. My second ride was my "ride on water" repeat to try and get a better video of the new path. Discovered afterwards the camera lens was smeared so have to go back and do that one again.

I'm still to turn a wheel this year. Very disappointing ! We've had lousy weather, warm(isn) but very wet and very windy. I'm hoping to get out next weekend and put a few miles in, but it's not looking good at them moment. Just hoping that you (in the States) don't export your wonderful snowy weather to us next !. Anyway Happy New Year to you all - things can only get better

You're not alone, Adrian. It's crazy warm here in Sweden for January, but the constant rain. 38 F and rain is too cold to ride in. If it were colder and snowing, I'd be getting mileage.

Of course, today didn't rain though it was gray and dreary, but didn't get a chance to ride thanks to a big day of laundry. :rolleyes9:

Yep spent Christmas at the in laws in Östersund. Last year it was around -25C, this year it was above freezing, it rained on Christmas Eve and what snow there was more or less disappeared. Used to been dragged out for walks in the snow or cross country skiing, but this year we just stayed in, looking at the damp weather. Came back via Upssala and dug the bikes out of the cellar to ride in and out of town, just like a late Spring day !

There were, not as many on river road as there were in Townsend. I opened the bike shop and actually had 6 folks show up. That was nice.

A little part of this morning's ride. The weather is a little bit nicer down here ... we got to around 36 C today

In January 2013 Fremantle Ports awarded a $13m contract to construction firm, Brierty Ltd to construct roads and services on reclaimed land at Rous Head, Fremantle. Part of this contract was the building of a cycle and pedestrian path along the sea wall. Well that path is now in place and this is a short video of the riding experience from Port Beach to North Mole.

The music is Beth Hart and Joe Bonamassa, Rhymes.

    Regards
    Andrew
