    Hi everyone

I went to a bike shop the other day and tried a recumbent trike. I thought it was the best think to a go kart. When I found out how much they cost I stopped looking. Anyone have a used trike they want to sell to a 58 year old. :no9:

    Thanks

You've picked a good time of year to start looking for one. People often start thinking about upgrading and selling in the spring. Check here, of course, but there are other places to look as well. eBay, Craigslist, Bentrider Online (BROL), Hostel Shoppe and Recumbents.com are all good places to look. BROL also has a Want To Buy space where you can post your request. Also, that local shop where you looked at trikes? Ask if they ever have any used models that they have taken as a trade-in. It is always better to buy local, if you can, because shipping can be cost prohibitive on a trike. My "local" recumbent shop is a three hour drive from me but the owner often gets trade-ins. If he knows someone is looking for a trike or bike, he will help find one.

Sticker shock is something we have all experienced. New trikes ARE expensive and finding a good, used one for a price you can live with will require patience and perseverance. You are not likely to find any "fire sale" pricing but there are always good deals that come along.

As some here can attest, you usually get what u pay for. Trikes are more mechanically complex than dual wheel & require some more attention. The added weight & cheap construction of a low end trike can make for a frustrating experience.

    Plans to build

I saw the plans on the Atomic Zombie web site that look interesting. Does anyone know of another good set of plans that they have used or plans that I should stay away from? If you do not have a welder is it worth to still build? I would have to outsource that part of the job. It sounds like a fun hobby:jiggy9:

:Welcome21: aboard Ben! Finding a local welder to do that portion of the build shouldn't be difficult. I say: Go For It! :jiggy9:

Hello-trikes are awesome but hard to get on-in -over a small car-especially with basket at back.Does anyone know of any folding trikes for sale(used )in the Toronto area.
Son was crushed on regular bike in a hit and run a few years ago and I can't get his trike to any new locations. If I could get him to the Leslie Street Spit or the Toronto Islands it would make his life more bearable.
    Thanks

Ben, What is your budget? Another idea would be to contact your local, or nearest bike shops and find out if they are doing a spring clearance or warehouse sale. Many manufacturers will allow you to buy theframe alone and then you can piece together or build with more affordable of used components. TerraTrike has entry level trikes with modest configurations at pretty reasonable prices. You might find one used from someone who got into the trike market and who is now ready for an upgrade. Good luck.

    Budget

I do not have a budget. I wanted to stay under $800. I just have a problem with spending that kind of money for a bicycle. I saw your post and I will contact the local bike shop to let them know I am interested in used or broken that I could fix.:rolleyes9:
    Thanks

The Tadpole trike on Aromic Zombie is a very good design. A friend of mine made one, very nice. It can be heavy if you use very cheap components but he told me you can ger the weight down to low mid 30's if you try.

The base model KMX Tornado F3 , can be purchased right now for $800. Nothing fancy but it can be upgraded if you enjoy tinkering. The base price for a Terra Trike Rover is now just over $1000, but finding a used one in your price point should not be difficult. Base model, single speed Rovers sold at $900 when they first entered the market. Again, a very basic model but upgradeable. I have seen 3 or 4 of the 8-speed Rovers in the last couple of months, selling for as low as $600 on Ebay, Craigslist and at BROL.
