So with snow on the ground and a temp of 35, I started the year off with a short 7 mile ride. I don't know if I will match last year or not, but at least I have made a start!

Best wishes for all of you for a great 2013 :biggrin9::biggrin9::biggrin9:

A sunny New Year's Day over here in England, just over 40F so went for a quick ride into London with my mate Graham (that's him posing in the photo outside Houses of Parliament) [IMG]

That's the first 30 miles of the year on the clock - I did just over 1000 recumbent miles in 2011, just over 2000 in 2012, so I guess I ought to go for 3000 this year. So 1% there !

Hope you all have a great 2013 - Adrian

    Great going, Adrian!

My first ride of 2013 came to 12.36 miles. It snowed nearly the whole time, except for the last 200 yards/meters home. At times it was just a fine wet dusting of the white stuff, other times the flake clumps were as big around as my thumbnail that splat when they hit us. I should be grateful it was snow and not rain since it was 35 F in town and 33 F out in the countryside.

It was a nice ride in spite of the wet snow. The thaw left most of the roads and paths with good traction since the new snow hadn't had a chance to build up more than a quarter inch or turn into ice. It let Loke get a few good runs which he's missed.

The only difficult spot was a half mile of unpaved path. Most of the entire length was covered with a 4 to 5 inch thick slab of bumpy ice. Gotta love unplowed snow packed down by footprints. In places, melt water from the thaw had eroded the ice from beneath which broke and dropped the wheels in tight pits. Other parts were melted away into trenches I had to drag the trike over while trying not to bust my rump on the ice. That part of the ride took about 45 minutes by itself. :o_O9:

I count it as a good beginning to the year though. :yes9:

Sorry Terii, that didn't last long. After cold, rainy weather for the last 3 weeks, and battling a bad cold last week, I got out to ride.

41 degrees and partly sunny. Bundled up and put on my long thermals today. They felt good and I didn't feel the cold.

However, I pushed too hard and after 10 miles started cramping up. Made it back to the car at 12.8 miles and called it quits. When will I learn to start out slow???

I can tell I haven't ridden because I got our of breath quickly and my speed was down. Will work on it and see it improve for Spring. :)

It wasn't pretty but my first ride in 2013 is history!

My first ride was8 miles I came home tired it was the first day the cardiologist had let me work all day. I came home tired but determined to ride. I am committed to do everything I can not to ever have another heart attack. The sky was cloudy and it looked like rain so I just made four laps around my local two mile loop. Brick

I wasn't sure I was going to ride today, but when it was light enough to actually SEE that the sky was clear and not lead gray, I knew I had to go out. Sunny days have been too rare the past 9 months or so to let one go by without doing something outdoors if I can help it.

I did the Ulva Mill/Gamla Uppsala loop which came to about 14.32 miles. Under blue skies with 37 F to 39 F temps and a moderate breeze. Loke was a bit sluggish for about half of it. Boredom I think since the first 6 miles or so are identical to the route we rode yesterday. The last mile or so, I think his feet were starting to hurt because of all the gravel and gritty ice.

I need to double check, but I think I might already be a mile or 2 ahead of the distance I had for the entire month of January 2012! I'd say that's a good start for pushing past the 800 mile mark for the year, yes? :yes9:

I have been perfecting my listening to the radio on open speakers while I ride. I don't want to ride with ear buds.I am knowing using my phone to stream my favorite talk and news radio station to a speaker pod mounted behind the seat and it is great my ride today was 12 miles which is good since I had worked 8 he's. Before I got home. The sky has been gray and cloudy here fort 5 days and I am ready to see the SUN shine and to get a long ride in. The heart bypass seems to be holding and healing and the more I ride the better I feel.Terri we will eventually get some of the weather you have here ride safe hope Loki,s ears clear up. Usually by this time each year I am traveling officiating monster truck shows all over north America however the bypass changed that for the start of this year. I may come to Sweden this year to do a couple of shows may be you can be my guest Terri with your significant other. Brick

Dragged myself out the door for a ride today. The 5th and 6th, I just felt sluggish. I felt the same today, but I didn't want to feel like I might end up letting the rest of the month slide by with a few pitiful miles.

Loke was also hyper and desperately needed a run which was one of the things that pushed me out the most. I'd planned to do 10 miles, but my right knee was bothering me. Though he'd been about as helpful as a brick on the first two rides of the year, he decided to be more like his old self and pulled. That helpfulness meant I didn't have to cut the ride down to 2.5 miles. We put 7.88 miles of the full riverloop with extensions under paws and wheels.

32.5 F, gray skies and a nearly freezing fog was the weather for the outing. Not too bad. The snow continues to vanish and roads clearing so Loke and I almost managed our usual speed for the route. That felt good.
