I haven't rode for 3 days now. You can bet I'll be out there tomorrow.

But this thread is really about my close call on the last ride I had...Saturday afternoon. Picture this: Beautiful day, sunny and temperature in low 80's. I pass one of our local elk farms and enjoy the beauty of these magnificent animals. Up ahead is a downhill, cross a bridge and then uphill to a 4-way stop. I've gone this way many times. Saturday I am going around the curve hammering and start downhill. Just glanced at the speedometer and it read 29 mph. I feel great....for a moment. Suddenly this guy who was mowing his yard and going parallel with the road just turns sharply right out into the road! Yikes!

I suspect he was daydreaming or something as he never looked; he just turned out into the road to make a turn around. He looked almost as scared as I was too. Fortunately I was able to turn left onto the wrong side of the road (going on the right hand side would have been disasterous) and he went back onto his lawn. You might say that got my heart pumping pretty good.

But wait! It happened again! Same day, different guy. Wow. You can't even trust somebody on a lawn mower any more.

But no harm done thankfully. One must always drive defensively no matter if in a car, truck, RV or bicycle.

Ahh, but in a car, or RV YOU wouldn't have lost to a riding lawn mower. On a bent, well that is a different story. :sad9:

Yes, folks living on not-so-busy roads can sometimes be the worst for such actions. I guess with little to no traffic much of the time, they just take for granted it's clear and make dumb moves like this.

Had you been a Transfer Truck, he could well be dead right now.:knockedout: Maybe he'll think next time, but then how about all his neighbors on that road who haven't had a close-call yet?

Sage advice you offer, in that you just never know what may happen up ahead. :nailbiter:
