We have a poll elsewhere about what you feel is the best size tire. (Tyre for our international members.)

Now I have another question. What is the best tire brand from your experience???? Ignore tire models and sizes here.

Primo Comet Kevlar-lined are fairly durable.
Schwalbe Marathon Plus are slow n heavy but nearly bulletproof.
Conti 4000 is a good balance of speed & flat resistant.
A concrete do-nut is very durable and gets replaced every 100,000 miles cuz the edges chip away.

I personally (for durability) like the primo comet kevlars. I never did have flats or blow outs in the all years (on the one I had) on my HB 'bent. However, as a manufacturer/dealer it is hard to just pick one one. Tires are designed for different uses so the best comparison would be to pick a tire from each category put on a separate wheel (lot of wheels) and ride the same route using a set up of each different category. That way you can truly pick the best tire etc. Yeah, a lot of wheel changing, but with QR doesn't take much time and besides...it is a lot of riding!:jiggy9:

Isn't Primo Comet a (particular) model of a tire? Also, how about Greenspeed, Maxxis, Panaracer brands?

Comet-brand regular tires are a very thin no-tread tire that I tried but gave up on as they flat from most any debris. Their Primo model was somewhat better but still not acceptable on the crappy roads around here.

Some Maxxis are like Marathons: near bulletproof but heavy n slow and a royal pain to get on/off rim.

Continentals are fast....yes even I can notice that.

My favorite all time favorite is a Marathon. Not a plus or any of that...just
    plain Marathon, reasons:

    1. Easy to put on the wheel. NO tools

    2. Nice tread.

    3. Light weight

    4. High or low pressure for on or off road....up to 100psi.

    5. Look nice.

    6. I ride across gravel driveways while the roadies are walking.

    7. Made in Germany

Schwalbes have been the most dependable tires for me, so far. I still have an original Marathon Racer on the rear of my trike with Duranos on the front. They have all been durable and reliable.

I'm still working on my tire expertise so I do not know all the brands/manufacturers just yet. I agree on the maxxis...they are heavy but extremely rugged. Definite PITA to change out.

    Schwalbe tires

My Xstream came with Schwalbe Marathons which were trouble free but, as others have mentioned, fairly slow. I have since changed to Marathon Racers and really like them. I needed a fairly high load rating for the rear tire and found that Schwalbe makes (and sells) several sizes of tire that most online bike shops, Amazon, etc., don't carry, so I have been ordering direct from Schwalbe.

Our Catrike expeditions came with the marathon racer tires. We got a lot of front flats and a rear blowout. After 6000 Kms. the front tires on my trike were almost worn out, I'm heavier than my wife,I guess that's the reason. We are gonna try the marathon plus tires...any thoughts.

Great tire. Built like a tank. It should do the job for you.

Cons: slow, heavy, very difficult to de-rim
Pros: long wearing, only tire more bullet-proof is made of solid rubber.

Missed this one when it first came by. I really like Panaracers. The Minit lites are hard to find but very fast for a 20" wheel. Cheap too, about $30 each vs the Schwalbe Ultremo at $60-70. Longevity doesn't seem to be either ones strong suit. The Panaracer Parsala I run on my 24" wheels and my 700's. I can usually find them for about $25 making them a great buy as well.

Schwalbe's are just a bit expensive for everyday use.
