I have a SUN EZ-3 SX delta Trike. Sun makes a canopy for their EZ models for about 75 dollars but it seem like it is a little small and would not provide much shade or protect much from the rain.

My idea for a large trike canopy came when I bought a 9ft by 9ft popup canopy for the backyard. This canopy is light weight, waterproof and provides good shade. The type of metal frame of the popup is too heavy to use for a bike but I think that pvc pipe or aluminum used for canopy frame may work.

for the canopy I think it would be easy to make just by sewing velcro straps onto the canopy material and attaching the velcro around the canopy frame

For the canopy frame I think the frame should be pretty easy as well.

I am having problems with ideas on how to attach the frame to the bike.
I have a basket attached to the back of the seat. Im not sure if I need to attach the frame to the basket or the seat or what to use to attach it with. What can I use to attach the frame to the front of the bike.

I cannot afford to spend hundreds of dollars for a canopy that is already built. I think for much less money I can get the materials and build one for myself. I just need ideas for attaching the frame to the bike.

    I would appreciate any ideas

    Thanks
    Chuck

You might try looking at the veltop website. They are a French company that makes a canopy top for bicycles, with a particularly nice one made specially for recumbent trikes. Looking at their setup should give you some good ideas for making your own.

    Chuck,
Did you ever get anything implemented? Sorry, but I missed seeing this thread when it was posted. My first idea/recommendation would be to use a pair of (cheap) fishing poles. Attach them to your seatback/basket (radiator clamp a small section of pipe perhaps?), then bend them forward & back down to your handlebars/crossbar. Let the springiness of the two fiberglass poles be held down with a simple hook arrangement to the handbars. That should allow for flexing, as you turn w/o interference. Just a thought.

No I do not have a canopy yet, but I have been working on building a trailer and signal lights for my bike
