I find the videos enticing, but they don't tell me anything about noise level.

Has anybody tried one of these things?

Is 4wd where it's at? Or might 2wd be 80% as good?

2wd uses a standard mid-drive motor, so noise would be a known quantity - given experience with whatever motor is used.

In my explorations prior to buying my ICE Adventure, I rented an "OutRider" trike for POS and found it's motor noise tb actually painful at times - so a reasonable noise leven is not a "given".

If you are thinking about Outrider, you actually want a motorbike in a first place. That thing is not designed to be pedalled at all, it completely relays on motor.

In terms of AWD or RWD: really depends on where you plan to ride. Look at my last vid, I got stuck three (or so) times, allways on uphill, always on some poor conditions under rear tire. Having also FWD, I could've been able to ride it through.
On the other hand, those were just places, that I was able to push for a meter or two and then ride again as usual, so no big deal.
Having FWD means extra joints, as you need to steer and some kind of "gearbox" that will split your torque from pedals (unless you plan to have front wheels on electric only). Any way will add weight and mechanical complexity, that will need some service every so often. In case you will add hubmotor to each front wheel, they will become heavy - very bad solution, especially when trike is full-sus.

In general, I do not recomend such thing, unless you ride in very specific, difficult conditions (deep sand, lots of snow, mud, etc). AS long as you follow SOME sort of roads, RWD only is fine for so long, that you will rather carry/push your trike when it is not fine, rather than carry that extra drive-mech with you all the time.

I agree 100% about the Outrider: really a motorcycle wannabe. Pretty much unusable w/o power assist, too heavy for one person to load into the bed of a pickip truck, too long to fit in a 6.5' bed, and with The Turning Radius from Hell.

And Heaven help the po' fool who breaks down somewhere and needs an extraction: two people and a truck with an 8' bed minimun.

But I was referring to these bad boyz : https://www.trikexplor.com/pages/trikexplor-recumbent-quad

The main attraction of a quad for me is lateral stability.
