Have you, as a recumbutt sufferer found anything that helps?

    Position?

    Type of seat?

Seat design and position are the two main culprits of "recum-butt". There is something not right with your set up.

For me, a webbing type seat (typical on trikes) seems to cause it a bit more. Also, the less reclined (i.e. straighter up) the seat is, the more apt it is to occur. On the flip-side, I've never experienced it on hardshell type seats.(i.e. M5, etc.)

I have both web and hard shell seats. I really can tell a difference when riding. They came with a 2 inch foam seat velcroed to the seat frame. My butt sometimes got sore so I added a 1 inch high density foam where by bottom touches my seat. It was about a 1 foot square. Made all the difference in the world. I went to a foam store and bought a sheet of foam they use for airplane seats. You will notice those seats are not very thick at all but do have some cushioning. I had enough space to put the original seat cover over both. Voila!

Good points, I've got to do some work on my bent seat too, its not quite up to snuff for me either. Have to try some of these tips.

RocketManTN: Was the foam on the web seat?

Both my web seat and my hardshell seat had 2 inch foam pads in a casing which had velcro strips on the casing back. The hardshell and web seat also had velcro so they would stick.

Here is a picture of the foam pad on my web seat bent.

At the bottom you will see it bulges out a bit more. That is where I put the airline seat foam insert. Works on my hard shell seat just the same. It almost eliminated by bent butt problem on long rides and completely eliminated bent butt on shorter rides.

    Hope this helps!

John, looks like you added lumbar support. I have never felt the need on a bike seat, but the adjustable lumbar in my Toyota Camry seat makes all the difference in the world.

I'm glad to see this post, I've never found a solution and would just take a break and stretch my legs and butt. :smile9:

I didn't add lumbar support. The web seat and hardshell both have some built in lumbar support which my poor back loves!
