New to the site and recumbents. I am trying to choose one of these bikes without the ability to ride them. Is either one of them known to be easier to learn USS on? Any pros and cons to each design? The only recumbent bikes I have been able to test ride were LWB OSS, which confirmed for me that I want a SWB USS, but still not sure which to start with.

As for the bikes you've mentioned, in my mind at least, they're all quality rides. I have ridden several Vision bikes and while it took me a bit to get used to the USS, I liked them all.

However, I will say that I spoke with Milton Turner over the phone when we were shopping for a Recumbent tandem. I was interested in his Inline-3-wheel Tribent tandem bike (or trike?), but never got a warm-fuzzy about things. In brief, it seemed to be a shop that ran on a shoestring budget as he needed a good sized deposit to even start the bike and couldn't give me a time frame for delivery. :confused9: Just my :2cents: worth.

As such we went on to purchase a RANS Screamer from Kelvin at Angle Tech Cycles which was expensive, but we got exactly what we wanted. :wink9:

I have been riding a longbike slipstream for 3-4 years and just last fall purchased a longbike eliminator on eBay (couldn't have had 50 miles on it). I love them both. They are very well built and are at the top end of the price range. At 6'4" and 275 LBS, 320 when I purchased the slipstream, the only thing that broke was rear wheel spokes, and the kid at the local bike store fixed that problem soon after purchase. I have ridden a SUN and one other that I cant remember the make and nothing equals the Longbikes. Both bikes are rated for 300 lbs and I have read they are heavier than others, I feel its a small price to pay for a very good product and if I wanted a bike that was ten pounds lighter I would just loose ten pounds as the results would be about the same. Both are about the same on hills, The eliminator has quicker response with steering because of its short length , the slipstream has a better ride due to its long wheelbase. My wife has a Ryan vanguard that is the earlier model of the slipstream that she wants to sell because she cant shift and keeps falling off, its not a problem with the bike. Ride as many as you can and pick the one you like the best, not the one other people tell you to buy.

Is your Eliminator a 1st gen or second gen with the adjustable boom? I have read that there were significant improvements on the second gen.

It is the second generation eliminator, I am pretty sure they both had the extendable boom . At 6'4" the boom is out all the way or a little past the line, but it works fine. I understand a longer boom can be purchased, but there is only one frame size and its plenty long . Has disc brakes standard gears and adjustable seat at the hip area

I started on a Vision R40 (1998) and found it very easy to learn on. The Horizon always seemed a little twitchier to me at low speeds. I've not ridden either of the others. Good luck with the search.
