The man who ran over and killed Jeff Roth as he cycled in the emergency lane (!) near Maryville, TN two years ago was today sentenced to 8 years in prison.

Truly a tragic and sad situation for his stoic wife, Kathryn, and three daughters who are moving back to Ohio.

If any good came out of it, his death spearheaded a movement and eventually a new TN state law requiring drivers to give cyclists three feet of clearance.

I read the article and the comments posted. For the most part people were sympathetic towards cyclists, but what I liked most were the people who responded and stuck up for the cyclist who is forced to ride further into the lane.

True the guy will be out in about 2 years, but this will follow him the rest of his life.

This seems like a good place to post this:

They are doing a Cycling Risk Assessment Study and want people, not only in NYC, to fill out a survey form. My last serious go round with a car was over 40 years ago, but I will fill it out any way.
