First, we had our first 50 degree temperature on Monday night this week. Today we had our first 60 degree temperature! Now how long before 70?

It was a tad breezy but nice. After doing some work this morning I naturally went to the bike this afternoon when the temperature shot up fast. On the short 12 mile ride I saw two guys who I haven't seen in quite some time so stopped to chat a bit.

Well, the first one looked a little like he might not be feeling too great. Turns out he had a stoke just a week ago. He's trying to clean up his yard but not working very fast and looks about ready to drop.

Two miles down the road I see the other guy so stopped to say hello. This poor guy is looking at a possible heart surgery. When I asked about another guy, it turns out he is also in a bad way.

Now I am wondering what these guys are thinking. Here is this joker riding around on something that looks a little like a bicycle but he is sitting in a lawnchair. He's riding around having fun and the rest of us are sick! Hum.... Could there be a connection? Or am I just lucky so far? Interesting to say the least. I feel for these guys but maybe if they got a bike....

I've read before that for every hour you exercise, you'll live two hours longer. But the biggest benefit is really the 'quality' of your life, as in feeling better and being able to get out-n-about to do things you want to. My suggestion would be to ride up and down that street more often. :wink9: You may eventually get them, or others interested in a recumbent. :yes9:

Brings an old saying to mind.... "even if it doesn't add years to your life it'll add life to your years".

As big an issue as death due to chronic diseases is, an even bigger one early onset of disability or looked at another way is years of disability free living.

Well Mike, I've been somewhat disabled for many, many moons, but I still get out and do what I can. Can't work as hard or as long as some but I do some work and also enjoy riding the bike.

A.D., we don't have streets here, we have roads and 2-tracks! lol

Along the lines of exercise, our 84 year old cousin has been out clearing trees and brush from ditch banks along some of his fields. More power to him. Good to see older folks being active. I hope to be active when I get old...
