I am in the process of getting an 2007 Actionbent apoyo - saw it but never test ride it but for a awesome price and it only have 50 miles - I am really looking forward in getting my hands on it. P.S. I am just a newbie!:jiggy9:

Well good luck with it and be safe. I just learned this week that
a trike will roll. Always wear a helmet on each and every ride. I've
lifted a wheel just on a casual ride.

Buddy, was it a barrel roll or and end-over-end roll you learned you could do...with enough effort??

Har, old Buddy looks funny and talks crazy, but
the old boy is way yonder too smart to roll a trike.
Nock-on-wood. No, this was a real smart dude that
did such a deed. I won't give his initials, but his
name is Brent Williams. Yep real smart. Jon told me so.

Don't ever tell me anything that's not to be told.
Can't keep my big mouth shut. Hoped Brent would
get in here and tell his story, but here it goes.

He bought this new Greenspeed GTO and it is a beauty.
I've never put eyes on a sharper recumbent. Chrome
and nice, nice stuff on it. In all the newbie nerves he
sat down on it, no helmet, and let it roll. Did I say
first ride. In all the excitement, who wouldn't forget
the helmet. It rolled, skin on pavement, scratch on
GTO. Makes me hurt to think about it.

Remember a couple of years back when Laurie flipped her trike end over end?

She hit the brakes hard going fast down a hill. The crankset dug into the asphalt and the rest of the trike pivoted around it.

So trikes can be flipped as well as rolled.

Last year (ok maybe year before last) i was really git'n it down this canal pathway in Ohio when outta nowhere i hit this elephant hole in the weeds.Jezabel went from about 19mph to 0 in about NOTHING FLAT. She made it look all graceful an all but i did a complete 360 with a half twist and landed on my knees lokkin bact at'er. Being somewhat stunned into the third or forth heaven i knew not which;it took me a minute or two to realize i hadn't died, before i was able to survey the situation and figure out jis what had taken place....:jiggy9:

Re: Just bought a Trike in Elgin

sorry i never answered... its a "flyby" trike made here in elgin illinois. from what i have gathered in the past year (by serendipitous chance when my mailman identified the bike) is that it was possibly the second Recumbant trike made in the states, first one in illinois, by a bike shop that rented them for use on the illinois prairie path when it ran through downtown elgin. when the shop closed (after the path was rerouted around elgin) they sold all 26 bikes. all were numbered. i have no. 1 from all of my searching the only reference ive found for the bike on the interwebs is here....
    http://www2.bitstream.net/~dkrafft/icebike/ice98.html

not to worry though. my mailman actually is related to some of the people involved in the production and has since introduced me to one of the original developers/craftsmen that helped build them. i plan to document all i can on these and build a site hoping to find the whereabouts of the other 25. also this individual was able to offer me a plethora of spare parts which i was about to give up on the bike if i could not find. so YAY!!

i have some pics on fb...

glad to say i have her fully restored and have ridden it for the past few weeks. i plan on possibly adding an electric assist to the rear wheel to ease long uphill pushes

I realize this posting I am replying too is very old but to clear up a fact. Your trike is not the only one made in the Chicago area. My Penninger was made in St Charles ,Ill before the company folded and started making radio towers.

Never too late to learn about yet another recumbent company, once in existence. In searching for Penninger it looks like the original website is now defunct, but I turned up a webpage entitled Penninger Recumbent Tricycles with some nice pictures on it. The trikes look very similar to the Hase KettWiesel Trikes, still being produced nowadays carried by the Bicycle Man.

Re: Just bought a Trike in Elgin

I just picked it up this summer. It is not my first trike, but its rated first by myself.
I had a RANS rocket, SUN ez3sx, a Sidewinder pro, and now back to a delta with the penninger traveler.
My wife rides "rarely" a sun ez3 which I have added a elec assist to. I am seriously thinking of making a hitch and doing the two delta tandem thingie.
This past summer has been a really bad year as far as getting ride time in. I am sure hoping for a better year in 2011.
The penninger seems to have some good quality components installed. I especially like those Phil Wood hubs. They seem to just roll forever.
