Okay, I want to know who is riding out there. Last year trying to catch Buddy and Dave really kept me going. I am very competative and need ya'll to help get me out of bed in the morning and get my butt on the bike.

So, my miles are there for everyone to see. The bar has been set. Ladies and Gentlemen start your engines.

Its tough, I know! Right now for some reason my work is really slow and I have had more time to ride. In fact after I post this I am going to go ride 30 or so. You know the other thing to take into consideration is elevation climbed. You might think about adding an award for most feet in elevation climbed. I know not everyone has the capability of measuring that but just something to think about.

Well and also, miles ain't just miles either. A whole lot depends on the intensity of the ride, and of course climbing bumps that up a notch or two. Road riding is completely different than rail trails, bike paths, geenways, etc., depending on the rider's propensity to press toward their upper limits. The easiest and most objective way to measure is miles. We could also look at averages, but many people (myself included) don't like to get drawn into the whole performance arena. Everybody just does their own thing and the miles are easy to log and keep track of.

I agree with Don. Type of mileage is infinite. The one constant that is easy monitor and compare is miles. Let's just keep it at that.

For all you folks who want to keep miles and let others in our group see them, go here:

    http://tinyurl.com/2l58xg

You can also go to our splash page (www.recumbentriders.org) then:

    Click RRI Home>Mileage Log

You will need to set up a free member name . Then look up our Recumbent Riders International club and say you want to join it. You can then start logging your miles and everyone in our group who is a member (so far AD Wade, Flying 1960 (Ward), HB Bussinby (Keila), Mtwnrocket (Dave), Realengr (Bill), Rocketmantn (Me) are the only ones who have signed up. Plus Dave shows 0 mileage yet a message on our boards said he has ridden 689 miles so far.

    So please do the follow.

    1. Go to www.bikejournal.com and sign up as a member.
    2. Ask to become a member to the Recumbent Riders International club so you mileage will count for our club and you can see what others are doing.
    3. Keep your mileage up to date so everyone knows how you are doing.
    4. HAVE FUN!!! :yes9: That is the whole purpose of our club. I'm with Don, when you get into speed and performance issues, you are missing the point of our club.

Nah, not really. Younger folks will usually be more competitive than older ones, that's just a fact of life. And if that makes riding 'FUN' for them, then that's alright too! :jiggy9:

On the flipside of the coin for those of us not-as-young, keeping a mileage log is often a good way to track your progress from year to year. After all, everyone likes realizing their fitness has gone up since they started riding! :wink9:
