Just picked up a new SunSeeker eco tad sx trike and down here in florida I seem to be running out of gears on the high end. While its a bit of an ego boost for someone who's not in the greatest of shape I could really use some advice. The bike comes with a single 38T crank up front and a 7 speed 13-32 cassette in the back. For the short term I've ordered a replacement crankset from a local shop to move to a 44T up front but what are my other options long term for better range. I do quickly drop down into the granny gears on even the smallest inclines but want to take advantage of the flat and downhill slopes. I considered a 3 ring up front but there doesn't appear to be a place to attach a derailleur without modifying or replacing the boom. I considered putting in an internal 3 speed hub to extend the range but that seems to be asking for a lot of trouble with a wheel rebuild and more complexity.

Any ideas? Also any other mods for this trike that you would recommend? On my list is to move to 20 x 2.0 tires and tubes at some point. I also wouldn't mind moving from a grip twist to a trigger shift.

Without spending a lot of money, additional gearing options are limited. (ie Rohloff, NuVinci, etc) For now, I’d probably just enjoy the ride for what it is. As you begin to sense its limitations, you can evaluate pumping additional funds into the bike, versus looking at other recumbent bikes that are built for more speed from the factory. Just my :2cents: worth. :smile9:

Oh nevermind. I see. It’s kind of like an internal gearing system for the crank side instead of the wheel side of the drivetrain.
