    Hi Terii
I'm thinking about the sprint, waiting for the launch of the 2012 models on Friday to see what the new specs are though.

HAHAHAHHH! Yes he is one fit Santa though. He usually rides a single speed on this ride.

Got in a couple miles today, just to say i rode in Augusta and Atlanta. Would have been great temps till the rains came. 4.4 in Augusta, then had to get dried out. Did 11.1 in a southern burb of Atlanta. Hope to stop and get a few miles in tomorrow.Hopefully in Montgomery or Hope Hull (something) Alabama.
Van is act'n up; and it won't stop rain'n long enough to check it out. May hafta turn around, fitz it and try again next week. :jiggy9:

No its a Carbon Fiber Trek Madone with a rubber band instead of a chain. He does about 3-4000 miles a year on Skyline Drive starting from Front Ryal, VA, and yes he does it on the single speed Trek. He is our local lovable, climbing monster. I hope to ride like him when i get to be 65. He has 20 years on me and I can keep up with him on the mountains.

Does the rubber band seem quieter than a typical chain?

January is certainly NOT conducive to bent riding. I finally rode for only the SECOND time this year today. I had to wait until the temperature got to 40 degrees (I don't ride below 40 anymore) . That didn't happen until 2:00 pm today. I put on all my layers of bike clothing. Had to go digging for my winter gloves and balaclava. It was cloudy and the greenways were still somewhat damp from rain from two days ago.

Rode a pitiful 12 miles and I was huffing and puffing during the ride. Boy am I out of shape. Legs started cramping too. Boy did I have fun!!!!

But even with that, I ALWAYS enjoy a ride. Even if I get left with a freeze dried face! :yikes::

It felt so good! Loke and I got out for a ride today.

Jens came home from his early morning short walk with Loke saying I should go for a ride because it was pretty out, the snow wasn't too deep on the paths, packed down a bit and graveled. I shouldn't have any problems. I took his word for it, checked Loke's feet to make sure his wounds were healed and began to get ready.

Perfectly clear skies and 28 F out. Loke was nearly hysterical with joy to be out. As we skimmed along, I found it odd that 28 F out and I felt fine without my face mask or wind-proof glasses. The last ride was nearly 40 F, I desperately needed both of them. Go figure. :rolleyes9:

Admittedly it was a bit like riding through sand. The snow was packed down enough to be a non-threat, but still mushy enough I had to work at it. On this perfect winter day, Loke and I did 6.37 miles. Both of us are happy if not exactly tired. Just not enough to wear either of us out. :jiggy9:

January is almost over and I have a whole 2 rides in!!! :sad9: Crummy weather and a very busy work schedule has kept me off my bents. I was so depressed, I took a couple of hours off Friday and took my Strada to Mark Power to tune up and adjust my handle bars. Wanted to add something to the bent so I asked him what would be the best upgrade for my bent. He told me new tires. So I bought some Schwalbe Ultremo ZX 650 x 23 tires . Now at least I think I will go fast, though it probably won't make any difference with this old engine.

My goal is to get out today and try them out. I will let you know if I make it. Not riding is KILLING ME!! :hissyfit9: Spring can't get here fast enough for me!!! I am counting down to the third week in March when I go to Florida and ride almost every day!! :woohoo:

RUSA Glen Echo, MD 106 km 2012-01-28

50 of us set out to do around 67 Miles in the Glen Echo Populaire. It was rather chilly at the start by soon warmed up to 50 degreees. I was the only recumebent again but I finished well. We did stop in Hyattesville, MD at the 32 mile turnaround point, for a quick lunch. I havent ridden much at all in January and boy my legs felt it. I have to remind myself not to chase D.C. Rando Riders around when i havet ridden all year..lol But thats the fun part. I would see a dot in the distance, tart speeding up to catch it, then repeat. Towards the end I was just happy to coast down hills since I fried my legs.

    Miles: 66.8
    Offical time: 5:29
    Riding time: 4:45
    Average speed: around 14 mph
Elevation: 4300 (Straa says 7300 but it is wrong)

Loke and I went out with the trike again today. I'll admit, part of it was in a fit of pique in a running argument between me and my husband. :rolleyes9:

So, I dragged the trike out and nearly went cross-eyed with the back spasm that hit as I set the trike down on the sidewalk. Somehow, I managed to get the seat on and sling everything together for Loke and I to set out.

It was mostly cloudy, though the SUN was peeking here and there through the clouds. Roughly 25 F, I wore my goggles this time. I really need to remember to try the dish soap thing for anti-fogging. Gloves as well though I refrained from using the face mask since it only seemed cold on my face when we went streaking down hills at 15 mph.

I really need to remember that in cool or cold weather, it tends to be a few degrees colder in the countryside. Anywhere from 3 to 8 degrees I think. My new cycle shoes (still love them!) are warmer than my old ones, but by mile 8, I was soooo glad to stop at Ulva mill to run into the bathroom to warm my tootsies.

It stayed pretty out as Loke and I plodded along. Some sections of the roads were pretty slippery. Nothing like heading down a hill at speed with a joyfully running husky, seeing a bus, and when you hit the brakes instead of the sense of slowing you hear schhhhhhhhhh. Fortunately, the bus stopped and I managed to skid passed it. Loke never even noticed.

Once the sun came out, it became very pretty. There's a faint haze that was frosting the deciduous tree limbs in gorgeous white and making large frost crystals on the snow. Some fields glittered like they'd been strewn with diamonds.

Loke sported the latest husky facial styling. A frosty goatee and neck ruff.

By the time I got home, the sun, while technically still 'up', was hidden behind trees and buildings and the temperature had probably dropped to about 22 F. Of course, it was probably at least that cold out around those fields.

So, a few things to remember. The temp difference between city and country side for one. Two, I MUST remember my shoe-covers even when I don't think I need them.

But we did our longest ride of the year, 13.46 miles. :jiggy9: While it was worth the freezing feet, it was NOT worth the three back spasms (two while getting the trike in). Haven't decided it if it will have been worth it to tell my husband he doesn't have to walk the dog tonight, but he will have to get his own dinner. :tongue9:

Oh, and random wondering. Why on EARTH would Loke refuse icy cold, fresh, CLEAN water for mouthfuls of foul, murky gray/brown snow?? I wonder if he's determined to poison himself because he just can't live without carbohydrates. :rolleyes9:

Went wabbit hunting but nothing showed up. :( Did see a lot of lady joggers!! :jiggy9: Like I said, nice scenery!!!
