Today's planned post may be delayed thanks to scheduled internet down time and a dental appointment. :rolleyes9:

2nd ride of the long weekend away now posted. Our internet has remained up and the dental appointment took less than 15 min and was painless. My teeth had no plaque even after a year, my gums are healthy.

One more ride to post about and another vacation for next week to plan! :o_O9:

    Windy Day

Tropical storm Debbie is providing some nice steady breezes today.
Good practice, biking in the wind...
so I orbited around in a roughly oval road course that has
a long upwind leg and a long downwind leg.
And coincidentally, passes by the house where the aggressive
    American Bull Dogge lives!
(She never came out to play/chase.)

    A dream came True today!
    :jiggy9:

I passed a group of bicyclists that I see on the road a lot.
    At speed.
    -Left 'em in the dust.

It happened toward the end of my ride, so I was really
    warmed up.

I whipped my bike around the turn, into the start of the
    long downwind leg.
Looking through the turn, I spotted a group of four bicyclists ahead
who'd only just turned around (apparently: I'd spotted them earlier)
    and were going my way.
    Downwind.
    Greyhound brain!
I passed the little group with a merry, "ding-ding" of my bell...
    while accelerating through 22mph.
    And never saw them again!
    :laugh9:

All that slogging upwind and flying downwind and my moving
    average was still 16.5mph.

That is just way too cool!:cool9:Combination of a good 'bent, good temperature and motivation make for a really good ride.

Greyhound is contagious. I think it is related to Mad Cow disease. We can all blame Ward for inflecting us!

    :thanks: Ward!

The brutal heat and humidity let up today. I went riding early (around 10:30 AM). Temp was 78. Temp was 82 when I got back. Very low humidity.

I rode a little bit extra today. I am only riding my V Rex because that is the bent I am taking on the Erie Canal ride next week. Get 3 days of riding for about 150 miles. Hope for good weather!!

    Dandridge-White Pine, TN 40-mile loop

Three recumbent trikes and a DF Texas street racer rode highways & byways in the 90+ degree heat the other day. At least one 20%+ grade uphill and a few 35+MPH downhills through the countryside.

The 41+ mile, June 24th ride is posted with photos. It includes a detailed description of the biker's struggle to pass an overweight, gray-haired woman on a heavy 'bent trike. :tongue9:

    Mad Cow..?!

Well, maybe... certainly the term,"Greyhound brain" is Mr. Wards'!

In high school, I was a middle-distance sprinter who almost always
    finished second.
There was always that one guy....
He ("That One Guy") functioned as a rabbit for me, I suppose.

Nowadays I'm only fast on my recumbent.
    It takes lots of practice for me;
I work hard for what little speed I have!

Yes, I've been dusted by younger (I hope) and faster
bicyclists, but... old, experienced sprinter that I am,
    I'm still racing people.
Whether they're aware of it or not!

    There you have it.
    My excuse.

    :jiggy9:

Hey, nice videos and photographs, everyone.
I'm not as talented as you guys and I appreciate your sharing
    your adventures with us.

(I'm too wrapped up in going fast(er)....)

Your story sounds very similar to mine. I can tell most guys have the trait and some gals. I lady well into her sixties got,up out do the saddle when I passed her on my trike. She didn't stay up long as she quickly realized it was futile. I was impressed by her desire.

Jens drove us out into the country side and let us off at a little church. It was mostly clear when we started and the SUN was quite hot, a little hard on Loke. I was fine because of a wind lashing wheat, weeds and trees.

I stopped at a Danmark Church since I found out there's a few runestones around there. I took a picture of one, but the other was a 15 yard hike through waist deep weeds. The idea of ticks creeped me out too much to go for it.

Part of the ride was on the Sverigeleden, but after a wrong turn, I was on paths/roads I've never rolled on under my own power. Fortunately the very heavy trafficked stretches I had MUP.

I found my way to the one drawbridge in Uppsala and immediately across the water, took the ramp down to a familiar stretch of gravel path which runs right along the river into the heart of Uppsala. Rather than put up with small streets packed with cyclists, cars and pedestrians, I took off through the hospital grounds and then to Uppsala castle. There's a path that loops around the 'back' side of the castle and the views there were beautiful. You can see most of Uppsala.

Arriving back home on our usual trails netted us 15 miles exactly. Flat puppy and I'm nicely tired as well. I'm viewing it as a recovery ride after the 41 mile pedal-fest and an insane workout yesterday!
