    Poor Hunting Today

I rode this morning, beating the afternoon heat... it's 89F. right now (3:25pm).

The weather was beautiful, the wind was absent, my fellow road users were
sane and my bike was running fast, thanks to its' engine.

    But:
    there were no other bicyclists!

    My prize, the end-of-the-ride bonus?
My sweetie was watering our plants where our driveway meets the road
    and I was treated to a hosing-down.
    Sweet!

Tsk you are soo bad. You know... I wonder why for some DF riders they feel they "can't be beat by a recumbent" I mean why doesn't it bother them that other DF beat them? But let a recumbent beat them and its the end of the world...the horror...the shame!

Looks like I'll get beat up a bit if I ever make it down there to meet you folks. I don't mind though.

I had another very good ride this morning. Did the 9 mile thing again, but the highlight was seeing a Great Egret stalking the wetlands in Central Park. Clay Township has done a fantastic job of restoring a very large wetlands habitat, and although I've seen Great Blue Herons there a lot, and a lot of other wading birds, this is the first time I saw a Great Egret.

I was able to up my average speed a notch...even with a pretty strong headwind on the way back...and I only had to stop and take one quick rest break, after a fairly long incline. Progress!

Good job! Now if you had been on a DF you would have been looking more downward at the ground rather than up and around you and would have missed that very nice moment in nature.

Sounds like a lovely ride! And she's right. One of the many things I love about my 'bent is seeing more than the front wheel without breaking my neck! :yes9:

Another gorgeous day here. *sigh* If I could get the trike out without killing myself, I think I'd push the edges of the doc's recommendation and go for an outdoor ride and just try to push/pull most with my right leg. Unfortunately, there's no way the ankle can take the additional 40-50 lb load of carrying the trike out as well as multiple trips up and down the stairs.

That said, I do think I detect a slight improvement this morning!

That is the benefit of the 'bent that I had not anticipated. I'm MUCH more aware of my surroundings. I'm really, really surprised because I thought I saw a lot of things on my DF, but gosh, I sure was missing a lot!

The very first organized ride I went on about 6 years ago I was on a trike. I rode 26 miles which was a BIG DEAL for me at the time. At the end of the ride I asked others if they saw the Bald Eagle that was flying overhead. No one else saw it. They were too busy gaining speed and staying behind the person in front of them.

    What a waste!

You have found one of the best reasons to ride a bent, you get to enjoy the scenery!!!

I've always preferred riding "heads up" even on DFs. The bike I used to commute to work in the 90s was a "hybrid" and I replaced the straight handlebars with highrise bars so I could sit up. Yes, much more wind resistance, but a more enjoyable ride (except for the bottom pain!). I've now ridden CLWB, LWB, and SWB bikes with both OSS and USS. I'm actually very partial to USS when riding street, just seems much more comfortable and less things in the "viewing range" as I ride.

Had to cut my ride short today...the headwind was AWFUL, and I just wasn't feelin' it. I still got a nice ride in, but only went 7 miles instead of the 10 I had intended. If it hadn't been for a headwind gusting to 35 mph, I would've been ok. But even down on a 'bent, it was too much for me today.

I did snap this pic though. I love this part of the trail!
