I would also like to say that as members of the Warm Showers we can host some folks at our place if they would like. We have spare rooms, two couches and lots of yard space for tent camping. You can read more about us on the Warm Showers website to see if that would be an option.

    Serenity,

Thanks for the info concerning Warm Showers. I did not know about this organization.

I'll try to acquire camping accommodations in Townsend. Want to ride as much as possible during the rally.

    Thanks again.

    Thanks Rocketmantn,

I've already requested info for camping from the Townsend folks. Guess I was just wanting something off the beaten path. Cades Cove and Elkmont are wonderful places to camp, just didn't want to ride up a 7mi mountain at the end of the day.

    Thanks again.

You could take Serenity up on her offer to host at her place. I can attest they are wonderful people and gracious hosts. :jiggy9:

Some more good news...had some folks who bought some ramblers from me register for the rally after I told them about it. They're not in our club yet...but I am hoping they soon will be.

Since I am only about 200 miles from you guys, I may load up the trailer with a few Stowaways and Spikes for test riding.

Great Tom! Maybe I'll pick one of those out and put it in my shop like I said I was this Spring. This way I'll know which one I really want there.

I rode my Bacchetta yesterday down in Townsend again. Started at U-Man, rode to the Coulter Bridge and back.

    20.8 miles.
    69 degrees.
    Mostly sunny.
    1 hour 15 minutes.

I did the first half of the Friday morning 44 mile Smoky Mountain Recumbent Rally (SMRR) ride and all of the 20 mile ride. I was specifically looking at the bicycle marks on the road. I bought red paint for our weekend to mark the ride. There is one other ride which used red on just part of our ride. The marks were faded, so I am going to buy a can of black paint to remove those marks in the 3 areas they cross our path so there will be no confusion. So we will have RED bicycle road marks the whole way for both rides.

Just a heads up, the Friday morning ride at the SMRR is an out and back. The 20 mile ride goes from U-Man bike shop to the Coulter Bridge and back. It is 10 miles out and 10 miles back. No rest stops or bathrooms except at U-Man.

The 44 mile ride is the same ride for the first 10 miles, then we continue another 12 miles to Howard Pinkston Park. The park has bathrooms and water available. I also plan to have a cooler there with snacks for the group.

Both rides will be well marked with new paint, so if you want to go faster or slower you can and just follow the road marks. We also have a cue sheet for you. Since this is an out and back ride, you can turn around any time you want. If you want to do 30 miles, then ride 15 miles and turn around. If you want to do 10 miles, go out 5 miles and turn back. You can't get lost! The final distance is totally up to you.

I will lead the 44 mile ride and plan to ride at a 12 mile pace (Intermediate pace). So if you are a speed demon, you can sprint out ahead and meet us at Howard Pinkston park. If you are a beginner, I would encourage you to do the 20 mile or less ride. It is fairly flat with one hill. It is an easy ride and beautiful ride following the river. Bring your camera for terrific pictures!!! The 44 mile ride has another bigger hill just before the park. Remember what you go up and over going out, you get the do the same coming back, so pace yourself accordingly.

The goal of the ride is to be done by noon so you can have lunch with your family in Townsend at any of the many restaurants there.

Probably only going to be able to come for one of those days. Which day would be the best for "show and tell", test rides etc.

If you are coming just for one day, for demos, then Friday would be the day for you. We have two rides that day. One that morning and then one later after games and show/tell time. Then for those that want to, we will get together later as a group for dinner.

    NEWSFLASH!!!

Last week I received an email from Larry Varney. [Larry Varney is the co-editor of Bent Rider On Line (BROL) a sister internet recumbent forum.] He writes many of their product reviews. He expressed an interest about our rally and wanted to come up and join us.

So it looks like we will have a NATIONAL RECUMBENT CELEBRITY at our Rally. Larry has agreed to talk about the recumbent industry, BROL and what is moving and shaking with Recumbent Bikes and Trikes. So if you would like to meet Larry and hear what he has to say, sign up for our rally!

If you would like more information about Larry:

Click here for a recent review by Larry on BROL

Click here for accounts of some of his rides.

Click here to read his blog.

(If you can't tell, the guy is busy!!!)
