I'm living near Lancaster Ohio and looking for bent riding partners. I prefer flats, will do a few hills if they get in the way. I'm retired, so can ride any day. Let me know if you're interested. Bentranger

Welcome aboard Marsh. I do a bit of riding around Ahia, but just in visiting. Lots of nice riding up there. Soon as i get back up there to spend some time with my sisters i will give you a holler and see if we cannot get together and stir up a little dust. I don't even know where Lancaster is but if it is anywhere near Springfield maybe we can convince Shawn to knock the winter off his ride and join us. :jiggy9:

    :welcome:: Marsha,

You can go to the Community tab, hit member list, and scroll down the state column to see who else is in Ohio. Then you can PM or email them (depending on their preferences) to contact them.

The purpose of this site is to get recumbent riders TOGETHER AND RIDE. So your request is EXACTLY what we are all about.

Good luck and I hope you find some people.

(I have ridden the Greene Trail Cycling Classic back in 2008 and plan to do it again in 2012. We could get together then and ride this 5 day bicycling event! For information about this ride click here. )

Welcome to the laid-back life, Marsha! Another consideration is a hauling rack so you can 'take it with you'. Vacationing can be enhanced with some riding time.

Want some scenic flat touring, check out some planned events both in your area and elsewhere. Can't find anything listed, ask around or 'just go find something that fits your desire'!

    Best wishes on your 'ride'!

Thanks to all of you for the encouragement. I've been a serious biker for over 10 years - switched from an upright to the SUN Sport AX in 2008. I have a Hollywood recumbent rack for my Jeep and have traveled to GOBA in 2008, the Illinois Great Rivers Ride (2008), Bike Ride Across Tennessee way out in West Tennessee (2009) and to Cape Cod in 2010 with the Sun. I've done the GAP, the C&O, the LMT, the Greenbrier River Trail, the Virginia Creeper, the New River, the North Bend and 25 or so other rail trails on my mountain bike. Now I'm retired and up here in Ohio farm country and am determined to find those other recumbent riders. I'll keep watching the posts. Bentranger

    Hey, greetings from Michigan

    Hi bentranger,
Wow, it sounds like you are pretty busy riding your recumbent.
My brother and I got trikes last Spring, and we really enjoy driving them. They are ICE Adventure 2fs; one is red, and one is blue.
(So we could tell them apart!)
We mostly ride on a local parkway, which runs 18 miles. We usually ride a 10 mile segment, out and back takes us about an hour and a half.
It's still cold here, so we have been riding indoors on our trainer.
Am fighting the flu now, so I can't wait to have it warm up enough to enjoy riding outside.
    Cheers,
    Daniel

Looks like you're about 75 miles east of the Miami trails. Been there twice from here in east TN. A tremendous network of ever-increasing flat miles. I guess too far to pick up a riding partner. Did you do the Greenbrier on your mtn bike or a recumbent? Plan to go there this year, but concerned that it might be too rough for a 'bent. Good luck.

Dave - I did the gravel rail trails on my mountain bike with slick tires about 1.5" diam. Since my recumbent has pretty thick tires (maybe 1.25"), it does well on gravel, as proven by my successful completion of the Virginia Creeper Trail. The Greenbrier is such a long trail that it's surface varies considerably from one section to another. There are hard-packed dirt and limestone sections, which are the easiest, then sections repaired after floods with something akin to ballast, then there are the sections with coal cinders, which don't work well for skinny tires and are really chopped up by the horse use. I wouldn't do the Greenbrier without a fat tire, but I wouldn't hesitate to do it on a recumbent because there is so little grade. I start at the south end, ride 53 miles to Marlinton and stay at an inexpensive B&B in town where I can shower and wash my clothes, if necessary. The 2nd day ride to Cass (where you can get a milkshake and a hamburger) and back, another 50 miles, then return to the south end the final day. The south end is an easy drive from I-64 - no twisty WV roads, so the easiest access. And you'll notice the downhill grade returning to the south end. Marsha

Thanks for the info. I also want to visit the nearby radio telescope facility. We may go up there in 6 to 8 weeks.
