My suggestion is for us to see who-all is interested in doing this ride and coordinate such here. Then we can contact Jeff, just to let him know roughly how many will be in attendance.

This is your one chance a year, to ride with other cyclists all around-the-world, in respect of those who have lost their lives in cycling related accidents. It helps to raise awareness in the public's eyes, and shows our solidarity as cyclists for our fallen brethren.

Do others have plans on riding in the Ride of Silence this year, in Maryville?

If so, chime-in here and let others know about it!

We'll see how much interest there is, who-all plans on going, and see if we can't coordinate our efforts here.

Cyclists hope silent ride will help drivers share the road

A group of Blount County cyclists sponsored a silent ride through Maryville on Wednesday night hoping to remind drivers to share the road.

The group remembers cyclists like Jeff Roth, who the foundation is named for, that have been killed or injured in vehicle related accidents. Roth was killed in Blount County while riding his bike in 2006.

Organizers said they hope the event will encourage drivers to share the road.

"Cyclists are allowed to share the road, motorists need to be paying attention, paying attention to our presence and give us the same respect we give them," said Charles Faulkner of the Jeff Roth Cycling Foundation.

Wednesday night's ride was one of more than 300 across the country.

For more information on Sharing the Road, visit the Jeff Roth Foundation's website.

See this post, for paulw's video of the event.

Btw, on the 11:00 news last night there was a very brief shot of a Recumbent Tricycle making a righthand turn with the group of riders.

:sorry: I wasn't able to make it, but we're s-t-i-l-l in the ReFueling Outage at the plant. :mad9: Hoping to be back up to 100% Power by Sunday evening* and maybe things will return to being a little more normal then.:gripe:(i.e. no more 12hr work days)

*Correction: Full Power has now slipped (again :o_O9:) to Monday...which seems to be a day-by-day event over the past several weeks. :confused9:

The above link has a TV clip of coverage, several TV channels were in attendance. I thought the local media did a nice job of handling this delicate subject.

    http://jeffrothcyclingfoundation.org/

Paul & I made it to the event, one of few I would attend rain or shine by the way. We noticed one other recumbent, a bike with faring (as seen in these videos).

I should also mention that my quest for better video sound continues but I'm still using my son's equipment. These two video's were shot with some Turkey feather down fluff double sided near the mic port. There is a shot of Paul taking a picture of me using his camera with a 'handle' I made for him; a piece of broom stick and a foam handlebar grip! Enjoy the clips.
