Why gas? Simple, light, works well, cheap and helps an old man go
up TN hills and see more of the country. Much better than motor. No
heavy battery to carry. Check it out for yourself. Need any help, let me
    know.

    Hi Buddy,

So, do we get to see some pictures of your bikes with engines on them? I've thought about it for commuting, but never got past the thinking about it.

I was actually considering doing electric as a mid-drive so I could use my rear cassette, the problem was trying to get enough range and speed. My commute is 50 miles and most electrics have a range of 20- 30 miles.

I thought about going gas with a mid drive, but didn't ever follow up on it.

Curtis, you can do it. In CA where it is dry a lot, the scrubber works well.
I'll take pictures when I can. You can check this nice site and I'll get
    others.

I bought my 32cc Tanaka almost 2 years ago and it has been great. Before I got it my daily driver was a 77 Chevy Blazer that gets about 10 mpg. This little engine, on my Cycle Genius LTX, has given me right at 200 mpg.

Last year from January to January, I put almost 5000 miles on this motor including a trip across Nebraska and back. It ran like a champ all day (210 miles the first day).

I never read it in any of the other reviews but this engine does not care when you ride( rain, cold, heat, snow). It just keeps on running. If you are going to ride like I did in the picture I recommend studded tires.

Every one used to laugh at me last year but now they are looking to buy one of their own. Thanks for a great product and saving me so much money.

Buddy you should give FFRtrikes a look. They've put electric engines on the KMX trikes and that hummer goes 35 mph and you need a motorcycle helmet to ride it. If I get a job I'm going to save up and get one. Or just save up and fix mine or get another one and put that up for sale. That is when I get another one. Not before not doing that again.

Interesting Shawn. Looks expensive. My engine cost 50$'s and the drive
unit 99$'s. Moves me along 20 mph up hill. What a pleasure to ride in these
East Tennessee hills. The beauty of it is, I pedal until I need it on a steep hill
and throttle up. They tell me this engine gets 200 miles per gallon and I put
a 1 gallon tank on it, so can keep moving a long time. No one will want to
ride with me. No telling how far it will actually go since it is at idle half the
time or more. BTW, I installed it on a RANS Wave that has two 20" wheels.
It is like a Rans Tailwind. It would probably go on the V-rex and Rocket.
    Pictures later.

Sounds great to me Buddy. I know there are days when I would like to be able to ride without hitting hills. Columbus is down in a valley and it doesnt matter which direction I go I have to climb. I figured one day that I would put some sort of assist on one of my bikes or trikes for that very reason.

Ward, this is the kit I use. Nice people and fine product.

This is the engine I use. Mitsubishi TLE 33

Didn't want to run out of gas, use a new one gallon gas can. Can get well
over 100 miles and have gas left. May even get over 200 miles since I'm
using it as assist when I come to a hill and my speed drops. The bike
pedals just as before but seems to coast faster with the 15 pounds that
    engine and drive added.

    Hi Buddy,

So your drive system is friction wheel to the back tire. From the web site, it seems simple but effective. Have you had any problems with engaging and disengaging while you’re riding? Are the tires you’re using high pressure or lower pressure? Just curious as it seems like a fairly simple set up.

Works so well I can't believe it. Need not take the roller off the tire.
The bearings on the roller are extremely smooth. No need to engage
or disengage while riding and can't do that anyway. Tires should be
inflated to pressure requirement on the tire. Good instructions on their
web site. I'll take the roller off the tire when not riding.

Hey Buddy, nice rig. Sounds like a sweet way to get to ride more.
Just for grins you should go to "Cheaper Than Dirt" and check out the sweet little 1 gallon gas cans they have there. I bought 2 of them to mount on the rear pegs of my motorcycle, and i think the slim shape of them might look great on the side of your bent.........:jiggy9:

Gene, could not find the gas tank. I'll install a more esthetically pleasing tank and a whisper quiet Honda engine.
Why? Because it is a test and I can make a $ or 2.

Here is another excellent provider. I like them because they allow
one to use the micro engines that are about 1.1 horse power or have
52 mm mount pattern compared to 76 mm of engines 1.6 HP and higher.

Well why? The weight. Weight is important because I want my bikes to ride like bikes and not motor/engine bikes. The assist is wonderful. It removes the drudgery of an East Tennessee ride. My ride time is adequate for a good work-out, which is what I'm after.
It put fun back in pedal time. There are other benefits. My bad knee
    loves me for it.

Back in the RRI heyday, Buddy's reputation gained him the nickname "Flash." No, he's not a pervert. He just outpedaled everybody else when we got within a mile or so of the ride's end.

Attached are a couple of recent pics of Flash on the scooter that preceeded his engine-assisted recumbent. Look fast; like a flash he'll be gone in an instant.

Note the look of contempt in Pic #1 at my on-ground Rocket as if to say, "Hmmpf... can't ride with Dave any more cuz he's too slow."

Jon, the scooter is for real and this is it: http://www.tricrides.com/mosquito_hawk_buy.htm

I was shopping for a bicycle engine at Harbor Freight and the manager
told me about the scooter in his garage at home. We drove out to his
house and he let me have it for 50$'s. It wouldn't run and needed a
drive chain. In short, I had the right stuff and had it on the road in
short order. That engine is now on the Rans Wave with a bullet proof
friction drive from these nice folks: http://www.bikemotorparts.com/index.html

Dave easily outran it on his 20,000 mile Rans Rocket. He clocked it
at 18.5 MPH. That was on level ground.
