    The Ohio to Erie Trail

    I just got the latest Rails-To-Trails magazine and their headline new trail is The Ohio to Erie Trail. It is about 70% complete but will go from Cincinnati to Cleveland and become the longest rails to trail in the country. They are looking at 300 miles of trail.

    Some of our members have ridden on portions of it.

    Little Miami Scenic Trail
    Trails out of Xenia (I rode that several years ago)

    For those who like long trail rides, this will be in our backyard (compared to others).

    It's great to see the posts about recumbent riding in Clarksville, TN. I grew up there and get back once per year. It's too bad I had not realized earlier what great biking roads there are in the area--especially to the north into southern Kentucky. I keep a recumbent at my parents' so I'll have something to ride. If there are other recumbent riders in the area, please contact me. David

    Have done the century there several times. Each year it seems 'bent numbers increase. The Sunrise is a favorite ride that I hope to do again this Labor Day.

    Nice report, Jon. The trail diverges from the original rail bed because the land rights could not be worked out with the current owners. This has been a problem with other rail-trails. The current owners have some reason that they feel the trail would be bad for them, usually an unfounded fear of littering, illegal or disruptive behaviour, or just plain "it's mine and I'm not sharing."

    You could tell this is an issue in areas on the trail where there were big signs saying "Stay on trail. Private property."

    Greetings!
    I needed to charge y'all up on the #1 recumbent bike ride in the United States (I contend it's the greatest ride on planet Earth, pretty much no contest): The Yosemite Valley Loop, in the High Sierras, California. Yosemite Valley is perhaps the greatest concentration of jaw dropping natural beauty vistas in a small space. The Yosemite Valley floor loop is 18 miles at its longest, with short rides as little as a mile or two. On any ride, there is a mile of sheer granite at your shoulder, and above your head, to any and every side. An embarrassment of stunning waterfalls, including Yosemite Falls (the tallest in North America), Bridalveil Falls, Vernal and Nevada Falls, and dozens of unnamed streamers during the spring and early summer; Also, every ride includes insane views of Half Dome (perhaps the single greatest rock mountain on the North American continent), El Capitan, North Dome, Washington Dome, Glacier point and Mirror Lake (now Mirror Meadow) at the foot of Half Dome. All within easy reach of any recumbent!

    Cocktails at the sublime Ahwahnee Hotel at the end of the day to share ride stories.

    Super simple to bring in your bikes and stay at either Yosemite Lodge or Camp Curry; Our favorite is Housekeeping, as it's semi-camping situated right in the middle of everything, the perfect bike/ recumbent access. Rock Bridge after Rock Bridge with stunning bike views. Roads are meticulously maintained for bike safety, and cars are limited on much of the greatest rides on the East end of the park. Not a great place for cars, it's tailor made for bikes - and recumbents in particular! In our seated position, it's simply safe and natural to look up as one rides.

    It's like it's tailor made by God for recumbent riders. Check out my pictures on the link, including:
    - my ludicrous recumbent ride up to Yosemite Falls with my Stratus 700 (!), my only mod being a fat BMX Tioga PowerBlock 20x1.95 in front for gravel and loose dirt;
    - the Mirror Lake ride with my son - a steep climb but easy with mountain gearing and worth the effort;

    There's simply nothing like it anywhere, safe for bikes, bike friendly, unparalleled views, and tailor made for recumbents. Go Now!

    Is anyone doing the Ride the Fault Line ride this year? I did it last year, using an ICE AdventureHD etrike on some days and an HPV Grasshopper on others. It was a blast, and this year looks even better!

    As a resident of California, I rather consider myself a professional "fault rider"!
    Alas, this one appears a bit too far for me - I can't imagine how to pack a recumbent on to an airplane!
    (Except, of course, for the Holy Grail of recumbent pack bikes, the Bike Sat'rday...)

    You would probably just pack it and ship it ahead to the ride organizer, bike shop or hotel.
